Clay Aiken, who came in second on Celebrity Apprentice to Arsenio Hall, is getting some words of encouragement from his former opponent for his new his political aspirations.
The North Carolina native announced on Tuesday that he’s running for Congress for his district. “I’m not a politician,” says the special ed teacher-turned-American Idol singer-turned candidate, “I don’t ever want to be one — but I do want to help bring back at least to my corner of North Carolina that someone can represent all the people whether they voted for you or not.”
When the announcement came out, Arsenio tweeted, “Run Clay run!!!”
We still haven’t heard from Donald Trump or arch rival Aubrey O’Day or for that matter Ruben Studdard.
In his campaign video, Clay revealed that his mother was abused by his father and she worked nights at Sears and bought him clothes from the thrift store and, “School was the only chance I had to pull myself up to achieve a dream i long held — to teach.”
The Idol runner-up also mentioned his golden ticket to Hollywood: “For most Americans there are no golden tickets –at least like the kind you see on TV — more families are struggling today than any time in our history and here in North Carolina we’ve suffered more than our share of pain.”
Clay is running as a democrat. You can see his campaign video here.
