Double Oscar winner Emma Thompson has broken her silence on the breakdown of her marriage to fellow thespian Kenneth Branagh following his affair with a co-star.
Thompson and Branagh were Britain’s golden couple of acting back in the 1990′s but their union fell apart when Branagh had an affair in 1994 with his Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein co-star Helena Bonham Carter. The pair went on to have a five year relationship following his divorce from Thompson.
But that’s all in the past, as the 54-year-old reveals in the UK’s Sunday Times that the betrayal is “all blood under the bridge. You can’t hold on to anything like that. I just think . . . pfft.”
The Love Actually star adds, “it’s pointless. I haven’t got the energy for it. Helena and I made our peace years and years ago.” Thompson remarried and has two children. Bonham Carter went on to have a longtime relationship and two children with legendary director Tim Burton.
