Some lucky bidder is now the owner of the 20-carat diamond engagement ring that once adorned Kim Kardashian’s hand.
RumorFix was first to tell you that Kris Humphries had put the Lorraine Schwartz bauble up for auction at Christie’s “magnificent jewels” sale. Kris got the ring back from Kim following their bitter divorce dispute. The 16.21 carat center stone surrounded by nearly 4 carats of side stones was valued at over $2 million, although Humphries was believed to have received a significant discount in exchange for the huge amount of publicity the ring received.
We spoke to Christie’s auction house in New York and they confirmed the ring sold for a grand total of $749,000 at auction Tuesday afternoon. The opening bid was $200,000 then the bidding jumped to $480K, $520K then finally $620K was the winning bid. Adding in the buyers premium rate, the cost of the ring totaled $749,000. Christie’s told us last month that they expected the winning bid to be in the $300-500,000 range.
Christie’s told us the winning bid came in via phone. The identity of the buyer has not been revealed.
Kris may never be able to get back the 72 days of wedded nightmare he had with Kim, but at least he’s going to get a good sized check coming his way.
