As country legend Randy Travis begins his long road to recovery, his fiancee Mary Beougher is showing her gratitude.
“[Randy] feels the hands of the doctors and the care of the nurses and the love of his fans. His friends and family have all been touched by that,” Mary said on Monday. “He is responding well to voices and he sees and he understands. He’s miles beyond where any of us thought he would be a few days ago.”
Doctors say Randy, who is in critical but stable condition, will be at The Heart Hospital for another two to three weeks to stabilize his heart. Then he will undergo months of aggressive physical therapy to recover from the stroke.
As for Randy’s cardiomyopathy, doctors now say it is not connected to either drugs or alcohol — it is hereditary. Randy’s heart is no longer using mechanical devices to help it work and he is being weaned off of a ventilator.
He is awake, alert and interacting with family and friends.
