  • MD Anderson's Clinical Cancer Genetics May 19th

    Angelina Jolie recently announced that she underwent a double mastectomy, after genetic testing discovered she had a gene putting her at high risk for breast cancer. The gueast was Molly Daniels, a genetics counselor with MD Anderson's Clinical Cancer Genetics Program. We discussed who should get tested, how it works, as well as the diseases that genetic testing can detect.

    Guests were Mary T Calahan and 3rd grader, Amy Hinaman, with Girls on the Run. Girls on the Run® is a positive youth development program which combines an interactive curriculum and running to inspire self-respect and healthy lifestyles in pre-teen girls. The core curriculum addresses many aspects of girls' development - their physical, emotional, mental and social well-being. Lessons provide girls with the tools to make positive decisions and to avoid risky adolescent behaviors.

  • Bikers Against Breast Cancer Ride - May 5th

    Guests were Dorothy Gibson, CEO and Co Founder of The Rose, and D'etta Casto-Deleon, Committee Chair of the Bikers Against Breast Cancer Ride. The Rose reduces deaths from breast cancer by providing access to screening, diagnosis and treatment services to any woman regardless of her ability to pay. Bikers against Breast Cancer, along with The Dean and Rog Morning Show on Houston's Eagle, and Cox radio, are helping sponsor a fund raising ride to benefit The Rose.

  • Community Platform - Houston Arboretum 1/20

    Guest was Keely pate with the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center. The arboretum contains over five miles of nature trails, with forest, pond, wetland, and meadow habitats. Specialty gardens include a Hummingbird & Butterfly Island, Sensory Garden, and Wildlife Garden. We discussed children and adult education programs, summer camps, arbor day celebrations and the loss of thousands of trees due to the drought.
