John Lennon killer denied parole again. Happy birthday Gene Simmons! "Love for Levon". Mens "eggs" can dry up too. Love handles women's most disliked body part. Married women drink more than married men. Smiling does a whole lot of good. 8 words that tell if your man is lying.
JOHN LENNON
John Lennon's killer Mark David Chapman was denied parole for the seventh time yesterday (August 23rd). A statement released by the State Department of Corrections said Chapman was interviewed via a video conference from the Wende Correctional Center in upstate New York on Wednesday, and that a full transcript of the conference would be released later. On May 15th, Chapman was transferred to a new prison after spending over 30 years at New York's Attica Correctional Facility. Lennon's killer is now incarcerated at Alden, New York's Wende Correctional Facility, 20 miles east of Buffalo. A spokesman for the state prison system went on record as saying "the agency doesn't disclose why inmates are transferred to a new facility."
Parole board member Sally Thompson wrote in the State Department of Corrections' rejection of Chapman's parole:"Despite your positive efforts while incarcerated, your release at this time would greatly undermine respect for the law and tend to trivialize the tragic loss of life which you caused as a result of this heinous, unprovoked, violent, cold and calculated crime. The panel notes your good conduct, program achievements, educational accomplishments, positive presentation, remorse, risk and needs assessment, letters of support, significant opposition to your release and all other statutory factors were considered. However, parole shall not be granted for good conduct and program completions alone."
Chapman will be eligible for parole once again in 2014. Chapman is now 57-year-old and is serving a 25-years-to-life sentence for murdering Lennon in front of his New York City apartment on December 8th, 1980.
GENE SIMMONS
Happy Birthday to Kiss co-founder Gene Simmons, who turns 63 on Saturday (August 25th). Although acting was an early side interest for Simmons, the bassist has branched off and become a world renown entrepreneur, marketing himself along with the Kiss brand all over the planet. Most recently, he, wife Shannon Tweed, and their two children Nick and Sophie, were the stars on the just-canceled A&E reality series Gene Simmons' Family Jewels.
Kiss has just released the $4,000, 45-pound photography book, Monster, which is limited to 1,000 signed and numbered copies and is five feet wide and weighs 45 pounds. Simmons spoke about releasing the highly expensive and grandiose tomb to Rolling Stone, saying: "(Not releasing it) wouldn't be fair to the people who can afford it and will appreciate it. . . If we didn't make it high-end, it would be compromised. Part of what makes it special is the quality and the size. There was no way to do that without excluding some people. We're putting something out that celebrates 40 years of victories. This is a celebration and a victory lap. It means a lot to us." Kiss is currently on tour with Motley Crue and releases its 20th album -- also called Monster -- on October 12th.
Gene Simmons, who was born Chaim Weitz in Tirat HaCarmel, Israel, the son of a Hungarian Nazi concentration camp survivor, said that spending his early years in Israel hardened him for life: "Israel teaches you a sort of a different reality. Christians keep talking about this all the time, this notion of 'turn the other cheek.' Well, I don't know how to tell you this, but it doesn't work. Jews tried it in World War II -- it didn't work out very well. Turning the other cheek doesn't work for anyone except the guy that's slapping you in the face. When you grow up in Israel, you quickly learn that talking is nice, but if somebody picks on you, you gotta take 'em out."
Coming on 40 years after the band's 1975 breakthrough album Alive!, Kiss is still on the road selling out on a global scale. Simmons recalled that at the time, the band's label Casablanca was completely against the album being released -- for fear it would bankrupt them: ["We were on our last legs, Casablanca was gonna go belly-up. We didn't get paid for the album -- in fact, when we told the record company we were gonna do a live record, they didn't want to do that, because live records didn't work. In those days, a live album was a liability. You did that after your career was over."] SOUNDCUE (:16 OC: . . . career was over)
Simmons said that he's as proud as ever of Kiss' ever-evolving live show: "I want to be able to enjoy a movie -- even when the sound is turned down. And in that way, Kiss has something in common with modern pop culture; and that is to say, you can be deaf and you can be blown away by Kiss live. But I would also like to think that you could be blind and blown away by Kiss live. It is audio-visual assault -- with a little bit of pepper."
LEVON HELM
Tickets go on sale on August 29th for the Love For Levon concert in honor of the late Band drummer Levon Helm. Helm died on April 19th at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, at age 71 following a long battle with throat cancer. All net proceeds from the October 3rd show at East Rutherford's Izod Center will help support Helm's lasting legacy by helping his estate keep ownership of his home, barn and studio, and to continue "The Midnight Ramble Sessions."
Although more artists will be announced in the weeks leading up to the concert, among the heavyweights that are already on the bill are Gregg Allman, Joe Walsh, John Mayer, Mavis Staples, Warren Haynes, Lucinda Williams, John Hiatt, Bruce Hornsby, Jorma Kaukonen, Marc Cohn, My Morning Jacket, and the Levon Helm Band, among others.
Helm's wife and daughter, Sandy and Amy Helm, said in a statement: "We are deeply moved that so many musicians and friends of Levon's are coming together to celebrate his life and his music, and to help us keep his musical spirit and vision alive in the Midnight Rambles. We want to continue to honor his legacy by creating a musical landmark at the Barn, one that inspires and celebrates Americana music and its heritage."

STUDY SHOWS MEN'S 'EGGS' CAN DRY UP TOO
Women might not be the only ones worrying about their biological clock. A new study claims that men's sperm can change with age and could account for as many as thirty percent of autism cases as well as increased risk of other diseases. The study, done in Iceland, found that older fathers pass down more mutations in their genes than younger fathers. On average, every year a father waits to have children he passes on two extra gene mutations. A doctor supporting the study thinks that if the findings are true, it would be wise for young men to store their sperm. (blisstree.com)
LOVE HANDLES WOMEN'S MOST DISLIKED BODY PART
Chunky hips have made the top spot on poll's of what body part women find the most frustrating. Fat on the hips has been rated women's biggst hang up about their body and unfortunately it's one of those spots that's the hardest to lose. Flabby hips are also hard to disguise. A plastic surgeon claimed that two-thirds of the women that come to see her about fat removal want to target the sides of their torso and their hips. The top five spots on women's least favorite body parts are: Love handles, saddle bags, muffin tops, bingo wings and inner thighs, respectively. (dailymail.co.uk)
MARRIED WOMEN DRINK MORE THAN MARRIED MEN
A study just published from the American Sociological Society shows that women drink more when they're married while married men actually drink less. Referred to as a 'typical' marriage the findings show they're happy ones. The study's organizers said, "Our qualitative results suggest increased drinking occurs because men introduce and prompt women's drinking, and because divorced women lose the influence or the men's alcohol use upon dissolution." SMILING DOES A WHOLE LOT OF GOOD
Smiling does the body good, and you don't even have to mean it according to a new study. Even when you're stressed, bummed out or you've been bad putting on a fake smile will help lower your heart rate, release stress and make you happier. And for those times you're caught red handed being naughty, smiling will make whoever you've annoyed more lenient, not necessarily less guilty but they will tend to go easier on the transgressor because smiling makes people seem more trustworthy. 8 WORDS THAT TELL YOU IF YOUR MAN IS LYING:
1. LEFT. As in 'I left the party at 2' vs. 'I went home at 2.'
2. NEVER. Watch out if he uses never when a simple no would do. For example, you ask, 'Did you just check her out?' and his reply is, 'Never!'
3. THAT. Watch out for how he uses it. If he puts it in front of a noun, like 'that woman' he's trying to distance himself from the word -- this is a common trick used by manipulators.
4. WOULD. When talking about a past event be careful of this word, especially accompanied by never. For example, you ask if he's still talking to his ex and his response is 'I would never do that to you.' The 'would never' might suggest that he plans to do it in the future.
5. YES MA'AM. Unless your man is a Southern gentleman, be wary of his use of the word 'ma'am'. It suggests he knows there's a problem and he's feeling stressed out.
6. BY THE WAY . . . A liar will use this to distract from what they're about to say next. Pay extra attention to what comes after.
7. BUT. Pay attention to what he says, liars will usually use this word to downplay what they're saying. For example, 'I know you think I'm lying, but . . .'
8. WHY WOULD I DO THAT? This is thew favorite line used by liars to stall and buy a little time to figure out what they should say next.
