JOURNEY
Journey will receive a whopping $500,00 to play a private fundraiser for Mitt Romney this week in Florida, according to TMZ. The band will reportedly play a 90-minute set on Thursday night (August 30th) in Tampa at a party separate from the official convention. According to sources close to Journey, "the group don't feel they are making a political statement either way by performing at the event, and plan on treating the show like it's just another gig."
Guitarist and co-founder Neal Schon said that playing a variety of new markets and having a worldwide presence was always something that he wished for the Journey: "It's not mind-boggling to me, it's always something that I thought we could achieve. We just never went after it in the '80s and when we were playing stadiums, we never spent the time in Europe and we never spent the time in South America or brought anywhere, except the Orient. So, y'know, in a way, it's really cool because all these markets are fresh, new green grounds for us to (laughs) stomp on, y'know?"
JOHN FOGERTY
John Fogerty has pushed his eagerly anticipated duets collection, Wrote A Song For Everyone, from October 9th to sometime in early 2013. Fogerty announced the schedule change under a news item on his website (JohnFogerty.com) titled: "Wrote A Song For Everyone Coming in Early 2013." The post stated: "There is an amazing group of artists who have joined Fogerty in making this record -- bringing their distinctive style to his songs. There are additional touches being added to the recording, including some new original songs and notable surprises. Check back here for further updates!"
Fogerty's song "Wrote A Song For Everyone" was originally released on Credence Clearwater Revival's 1969 Green River album. Since then, the song has been covered by Mavis Staples and Johnny Rivers, among others. The upcoming duets set will feature high profile collaborations as Fogerty and Bob Seger teaming up on "Who Will Stop The Rain?" and Fogerty and the Foo Fighters' remake of Creedence's "Fortunate Son" -- along with collaborations on both old and new tunes with Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, My Morning Jacket, Alan Jackson, and Miranda Lambert, among others.
AEROSMITH
Aerosmith has released an official trailer for its upcoming album, Music From Another Dimension, according to HenneMusic. The band's 15th studio effort is due out on November 6th and is its first collection of all-new material since 2001's Just Push Play and their first studio release since 2004's covers collection, Honkin' On Bobo. Aerosmith recorded the new album with producer Jack Douglas, who worked on such band classics 1974's Get Your Wings, 1975's Toys In The Attic, and 1976's Rocks.
The group just released a new track from the disc, called "Lover A Lot," which can be heard at http://tinyurl.com/8gfwh2f.
Steven Tyler was asked how a band like Aerosmith -- which has lasted 40 years in the spotlight -- can hope to revitalize itself every time out: "Maybe in the new songs. In writing new songs, you always come up with a new you. I think you should. You can always do another 'Dude Looks Like A Lady,' another 'Dream On' -- we always tap into something new."
BRIAN EPSTEIN
Today (August 27th) marks the 45th anniversary of the death of the Beatles' manager Brian Epstein. Epstein, who died of an accidental drug overdose at the age of 34, literally groomed the group from a scruffy, leather clad, bar band into the most successful and influential musicians of their time.
In 1963 Brian Epstein described what he saw on December 9th, 1961 when he caught the Beatles' lunchtime gig at the soon-to-be legendary Cavern Club: "The Beatles were then just four lads on that rather dimly lit stage, somewhat ill-clad and their presentation -- well, it left a little to be desired, as far as I was concerned. But, amongst all that, I was immediately struck by their, their music, their beat, and their sense of humor, actually, on stage."
Epstein, who ran the music division of his parents' Liverpool department store, discovered the band in late 1961 and in just over six months had secured them their record deal with EMI Records. During his six years managing the band, Epstein's office supervised all of their personal and professional cares, including tour schedules, police security, personal mortgages, honeymoons, vacations, publicity, and much more. Epstein served as the best man to John Lennon and Ringo Starr at their weddings, and at George Harrison's wedding, he shared best man duties with Paul McCartney. In 1963, John and Cynthia Lennon named Epstein the godfather to their only child, Julian Lennon.
HOW TO REPEL INSECTS THE SAFE WAY
DEET is a common active ingredient in bug repellents but it has side effects that have been linked to birth defects and neurological damage. In addition to the unhealthy affects of DEET, a study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences claims that many disease carrying mosquitoes are growing resistant to DEET.
But there are natural ways to protect yourself:
1. Picaridin. Derived from pepper, picaridin is thought to be more effective in repelling mosquitoes spreading dengue fever and does not have negative healthy effects.
2. Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus. A plant based repellent recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it wards off disease carrying mosquitoes and lasts up to three hours longer than DEET based repellents.
3. IR3535. This ingredient, found in Avon Skin so Soft, is as effective as DEET against West Nile carrying mosquitoes, according to a Study in the Journal of Medical Entomology. It has been used in Europe for decades with no reported side effects.
4. OTHER PLANT BASED REPELLENTS. A study in the Journal of Medical Entomology says that products containing soybean oil, citronella, neem oil and geranoil as effective as mosquito repellent. Soybean Oil has been reported as the most effective of the four.

ELEVEN HEALTH HABITS YOU'RE DOING WRONG
1. Applying sunscreen. DON'T wash your hands afterward. You will leave crucial skin exposed to the sun.
2. Sanitizing your counters. DON'T assume all cleaners disinfect. Only cleaners with an EPA registration can truly kill germs.
3. Taking a shower. DON'T shower every day. The outer layers of skin are the most important for keeping in moisture. If you shower every day, keep the water luke warm and your time to 10 minutes or less.
4. Cleaning contact lenses. DON'T top off your solution. Many people, according to a study at the University of Texas, think that adding a few drops to the old solution in the case is okay but the old solution has no disinfecting power left making you susceptible to vision damage.
5. Trying to make a baby. DON'T use lubricant when trying to conceive. Lubricant can change the pH of the vagina and act like a spermicide.
6. Sitting on the toilet. DON'T sit with your knees level with you hips. Leveling your knees and hips puts a crook in your rectal canal and can interfere when going to the bathroom. Keep your rear-end below your knees.
7. Battling back pain. DON'T sit on the couch too long. Sitting or lying down on the couch for extended periods of time is bad for your back.
8. Cleaning a wound. DON'T use hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen Peroxide is a bleach which yes, kills germs, but it also damages skin cells important for repairing or cleaning damaged skin. The Swedish Medical Center in Colorado recommends cleaning a wound with soap and water and applying a petroleum based jelly such as Aquaphor before covering it
with a bandage.
9. Flossing your teeth. DON'T floss before and not after brushing. You need to sweep away for food particles THEN remove the ones wedged between your teeth.
10. Drying your hands. DON'T skip the towels. Use towels when drying your hands. Electric hand dryers can increase the number of bacteria on your skin by up to 45%.
11. Putting on a condom. DON'T leave air in the tip of the condom.
