Springsteen and the Grammy Awards. Stones not headlining 'Best of Britain'. Beatles song anniversary. Popular Wall Street drug. Ladies, are you wearing special underwear tomorrow? Looking in the mirror makes you miserable. Valentine's Day stats. How to handle a breakup on Facebook.
BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN
For the first time in what seems like years, last night's Grammy Awards actually seemed to have something for fans of classic artists -- with a handful of well thought out and rocking collaborations to boot -- including a Beach Boys reunion with Brian Wilson, and Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen sharing the stage for the first time in 13 years.
Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band kicked off the show with the live premiere of his new single, "We Take Care Of Our Own" featuring a full string section and marking the band's first performance as a group since the death of Clarence Clemons last June. Rather than leaving a hole on the stage where "The Big Man" would've been, bassist Garry Tallent stepped in and stood in his place far stage right. The song, like most of the best of "The Boss'" work, sounds even better live and makes for an obvious opening number for the band's upcoming tour. Prior to the telecast, Springsteen's archival set The Promise: The Darkness On The Edge Of Town Story snagged the Grammy for "Best Boxed Or Special Limited Edition Package."
ROLLING STONES
According to a Rolling Stones' spokesman, Britain's original bad boys will definitely not headline an August 12th 'Best Of British' concert in London's Hyde Park as part of the London Olympics. NME posted a statement from the band's rep Bernard Doherty saying: "Contrary to a totally inaccurate report in The London Evening Standard today, the Rolling Stones wish to point out that they are not performing at any concerts tied to the 2012 Olympic Games in Hyde Park or The Olympic Park."
The band -- who is taking their sweet time in announcing their upcoming 50th anniversary tour -- were rumored to be playing on a bill that also included '90s Brit Pop rockers Blur and current singing sensation, Adele. According to reports -- which also place Paul McCartney performing in celebration of the Olympic games -- there are said to be "14 days of free events in Hyde Park to coincide with the Olympics, with two paid-for 80,000-capacity concerts taking place on the night of the opening and closing ceremonies."
THE BEATLES
It was 45 years ago today (February 13th, 1967) that the Beatles released their double A-sided single of "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Penny Lane." The single contained two of the first three songs recorded for the group's upcoming Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album. (The other song, "When I'm 64," was saved for the album.) The songs broke the group's then unprecedented six-month stretch since their last single, "Yellow Submarine" backed by "Eleanor Rigby."
The new songs, which touched upon the group's Liverpool upbringing, were a study in contrasts, with Paul McCartney's more literal "Penny Lane" borrowing heavily from the sound of the Beach Boys' then-recent Pet Sounds album, and John Lennon's introspective "Strawberry Fields Forever" breaking new ground in both record production and song structure.
In a classic example of less being more, Beatles producer George Martin said that the limited technology of the 1960's in no way held back the Beatles from recording timeless classics: "And I think in fact, if I had more than four tracks recording Sgt. Pepper, I don't think it would've been any better than it turned out. The music itself was so good, that no matter what you did with it -- provided you did it reasonably, technically well -- it would've survived."
POPULAR NEW WALL ST. DRUG? TESTOSTERONE
Testosterone has become an unlikely drug of choice for Wall Street traders. The Financial Times reported that New York clinics have reported a rise in treatment for 'testosterone deficiency', sometimes known as 'andropause'. They say many workers in the male-dominated industry are hoping that boosters of the hormone will help them perform better at work and put in longer hours. New York doctor Lionel Bissoon says 90 per cent of his patients work in finance. He said, 'All of these men are under tons of stress, and stress will reduce their levels of testosterone. As one patient told me: "There's a whole bunch of whizz-kids beneath me who are ready to take my place." (Daily Mail)
54% OF WOMEN WILL WEAR SPECIAL UNDERWEAR ON VALENTINE'S DAY
More than half of women (54 percent) will select special underwear for a Valentine's date, and a third will even invest in new lingerie for the occasion. (Telegraph)
LOOKING IN THE MIRROR MAKES YOU MISERABLE
Looking in the mirror is bad for your self esteem. New research shows volunteers who gazed at their reflections for up to ten minutes at a time gradually became more and more anxious and depressed about their looks -- even if they were happy with them to start with. Even 'healthy' participants started to show signs of distress and anxiety about their own body image after staring at their own images for several minutes at a time. According to some surveys, women stare in the mirror around 38 times every day and men 18 times a day. Studies show women are much more critical of their appearance than men and much less likely to admire what they see in the mirror. (Daily Mail)
VALENTINE'S DAY STATS (YourTango.com)
HOW TO HANDLE A BREAKUP ON FACEBOOK (YourTango.com)
1. First and foremost, wait at least six months to post that you are "In a Relationship". Sharing your significant other to the social media world should wait. You could always write sweet comments on pictures or posts if you feel the need to "piss on someone's wall" to make it clear that they are "taken".
2. To be in a relationship, it takes two to tango. To walk away from a relationship, it may only take one person. Rule number one for respecting yourself or another, NEVER break up with someone on Facebook. Don't be a coward in front of all your friends. It is cold, insensitive, and belittling. If you want out of a relationship, do not embarrass your partner by changing your status to "single" and shocking your partner and the world. If you must end a relationship, do it in an appropriate way WITH your partner, and let your status change slowly to no status at all.
3. Lose the "It's Complicated" option. Once you make that option your status, you have just given a green light to 500 people to start asking your soon to be ex what is happening. When a relationship is having a rocky road, it can be extremely painful for the person who is still in love and wants to try and salvage the relationship. To air your dirty laundry publicly may cause more harm than good to your partner. No matter how hurt you are, or how badly you may want to walk away from the relationship, always respect your partner on Facebook. Remember, it is better to leave your status as is for a week, than set it to "no relationship status" (after you have appropriately spoken to your ex) than to cause emotional pain on someone else. If you are strong enough to walk away then be strong enough to have respect.
4. Do not post "Single" too soon after a breakup. Wait about one month. If you are trying to get the attention of one specific friend, just send a private message to alert him or her that you are back on the market.
5. If you cannot remain friends, delete your ex after a few weeks. You never want to "stalk" his or her Facebook wall and cause yourself more pain. You will only hurt yourself by doing this. Heal yourself and heal your heart. Take the appropriate steps you need to take to bounce back.
