Neal Schon being sued. Santana 3 disc collection out now. Beatles "Ticket To Ride" anniversary. Tightrope walker gets ok. Is Myspace in again? Many gamers are married. Doing this makes you happier. How to flirt on Twitter. 4 Reasons why your diets fail.
NEAL SCHON
Journey, guitarist Neal Schon, and girlfriend Michaele Salahi, are being sued by Salahi's estranged husband Tareq Salahi for $50 million along with seeking $450,000 in punitive damages. The suit, which was brought about Tuesday alleges that she had been living a double life with Schon for years, and has now set out with Schon to humiliate and defame him. The suit comes a day after Journey's new video, "Resonate" was released showing Schon and Michaele wrapped around each other in passionate embraces. The couple appeared on NBC's Today show to discuss the suit and new video.
Schon told The Huffington Post: "Never a dull moment. You can try to do whatever you want to do, but you can't take away the love that I have for Michaele. We are going to be together in New York City on Valentine's Day, loving the city and being in love with each other."
SANTANA
Out now is Santana's The Anthology '68-'69: The Early San Francisco Years. The three-disc collection is broken into three sections -- "Latin Grooves," "Santana Blues," and "Improvisational Jams," and focuses on the band's earliest days in live, demo, and studio recordings of such standards as, "Evil Ways," "Soul Sacrifice," "Jingo (Jin-Go-Lo-Ba)," "With A Little Help From My Friends," and "Every Day I Have The Blues," among others.
Carlos Santana says that despite all the pitfalls facing aspiring musicians these days, being honest in their work is the key ingredient to a long and fruitful career: "Truly, the only criteria is, 'Is it coming from the heart or not?' If it's not coming from your heart, then it's phony baloney, so no one wants to hear it. If it's coming from the heart, then it's necessary to be heard, because music from the heart doesn't grow old, doesn't get dated, like bell-bottoms and Afros. It doesn't go in and out -- it stays. Just like sex and spirituality, those things, they never grow old."
THE BEATLES
It was 46 years ago on this week that the Beatles recorded their eighth U.S. Number One hit, "Ticket To Ride." The session, which took place on February 15th, 1965, was the Beatles' first for the year and the start of the Help! album, featured a new technique for the group -- instead of recording multiple takes of each song, they began by recording a very simple basic track, and then overdubbing on top of it.
"Ticket To Ride," written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, was inspired by an early visit to the British town of Rhyde, which made the song's title a subtle in-joke within the band. The session also marked the first time that McCartney played lead guitar on a Beatles session, performing the song's galloping solo. The song's distinctive introduction, however, was played by George Harrison. Years later, John Lennon, who criticized the performance and sound of many of the Beatles' biggest records, was especially proud of "Ticket To Ride," and credited McCartney with suggesting to Ringo Starr the song's slightly off-the-beat drumming.
TIGHTROPE WALKER GETS OKAY TO CROSS NIAGARA FALLS
Canada agreed Wednesday to allow 33-year-old Nik Wallenda, a member of the Flying Wallenda family of circus performers, to attempt a tightrope walk over Niagara Falls, clearing the way for the stunt to take place this summer. Wallenda had already gotten approval from the American side of the falls last September, when New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a bill giving him one year to perform the stunt, which Wallenda says will be the first attempt in more than a century.
Canada's Niagara Parks Commission also passed a motion yesterday barring a similar stunt more than once every 20 years.
IS MYSPACE IN AGAIN?
Since December, when the company introduced a new music player, registrations have surged -- the company officially announced this week that more than one million new users had signed on. "The numbers tell an amazing story of strong momentum and dramatic change for Myspace," said Tim Vanderhook, CEO of Myspace. The music player offers 42 million songs, according to the company,. As well as a recommendation engine that will suggest relevant music you might like. It also integrates smoothly with Facebook. (Fox News)
36% OF GAMES ARE MARRIED
A new study found that 36 percent of online gamers are married -- but playing online role-playing games such as World of Warcraft can seriously damage that marriage. The study found that the spouses of fans of online games such as World of Warcraft find that the games cause arguments, as well as eating into time couples might spend together. However -- the research also found that 76 percent of couples where both people played found that gaming was a positive influence. (Daily Mail)
RE-READING BOOKS MAKES YOU HAPPIER
Scientists say that people who reread books over and over again could reap emotional benefits. Scientists say that watching films or reading books multiple times encourages people to engage with them emotionally. The first time people read - or watch - through, they are focused on events and stories. But the second time through, the repeated experience reignites the emotions caused by the book or film, and allows people to savor those emotions at leisure. (Daily Mail)
HOW TO FLIRT ON TWITTER (HowAboutWe.com)
1. Retweet/Reply: Twitter is an interactive medium: take advantage and retweet/reply your crush's (no doubt, brilliant) musings. At minimum, they'll see your little face pop up on their feed, and, well, know you exist. At best, they'll start replying/retweeting you back. Of course, ardent retweeting does not a relationship make. And whatever you do, don't retweet everything, for fear of coming off as a little...maniacal.
2. Follow Friday: Follow Friday is maybe the stupidest internet convention ever (second only to Gratuitous Picture of Yourself Wednesday, on Tumblr), but even the most curmudgeonly twitter followers can't help but be begrudgingly flattered to see themselves on someone else's list. (Ex: #FF to @scienceguy, who manages to make even microbes sound quippy.) Yeah, it's silly, but when it comes to flirting, a little flattery never hurt anyone.
3. Direct Message: Taking it to Direct Message is like, the Twitter equivalent of third base. You two are in a private conversation now, this is no off-hand Twitter reply! Take advantage and ramp up the flirtatious edge to what you say.
4. Take it Offline: This is HowAboutWe's motto for, oh, just about everything. But it's true! Interacting with someone online -- whether it's through Twitter, Facebook, or messaging on an online dating site - is a good ice breaker, but not an accurate way to gauge whether you have chemistry with someone. Meeting someone in person is just different, so if you really like someone, work up the courage to suggest an in-person meeting.
4 REASONS WHY YOUR DIETS FAIL (UPI)
Underestimating the number of calories consumed. Write down everything you eat -- including drinks and "bites" or "tastes" of food -- to help increase self-awareness. Food eaten outside of the home tends to be much larger portion sizes and much higher in calories.
Overestimating activity and calories burned. Typically you need to cut 500 calories per day to lose 1 pound per week, which would require 60 minutes or more of vigorous activity every day. A more attainable goal would be to try to increase activity and get a total of 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise most days of the week.
Poor timing of meals. You need a steady stream of glucose throughout the day to maintain optimal energy and to prevent metabolism from slowing down. Try not to go longer than 5 hours without eating a healthy snack or meal to keep your metabolism steady.
Inadequate sleep. Studies show people who get fewer than 6 hours of sleep have higher levels of ghrelin, a hormone that stimulates appetite, particularly for high-carbohydrate/high-calorie foods.
