The Who "Quadrophenia & More Tour". Keith Richards not drinking as much. Fleetwood Mac album half done. Hurricane Sandy telethon. The music preference of dogs. Live close to a bar? Four reasons to turn off the television. Why you shouldn't hang clothes to dry indoors. How to date a "nerdy" guy.

THE WHO

The Who have juggled things around for the encore portion of their Quadrophenia & MoreTour. Pete Townshend had left the stage early on opening night (November 1st) in Sunrise, Florida, so Saturday's (November 3rd) show at Orlando, Florida's Amway Center featured the first complete set following the band's performance of Quadrophenia. Kicking things off was "Baba O' Riley," followed by "The Kids Are Alright" -- which after a false start finally fell into a groove, "Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere," "Behind Blue Eyes," "Who Are You," "Won't Get Fooled Again," and "Tea & Theatre." Both "Pinball Wizard" and "You Better You Bet" were dropped from the setlist after opening night.

Roger Daltrey said that due to his aging vocal cords, he's learned to properly pace himself within his live performances: "We can only play for two hours. Y'know it gets to be, for me personally and my voice, two hours is enough singing the way I sing. It's not an easy number these songs. They're very, very challenging. They demand the kind of energy that the voice needs to give it."

KEITH RICHARDS

Keith Richards has scaled back his drinking. Richards, who'll turn 69 in December, took up Jack Daniels after kicking heroin in the late-'70s, eventually moved to Stoli and Sunkist, and now maintains that he keeps things on the lighter side these days. Richards told Rolling Stone, "I don't get ridiculous. I like a glass of wine with my meal and everything, but I've given up sort of waking up and having a drink, y'know? I gave up smack, I can give up anything. No big deal to me, I do it to impress other people. But if they come up with a great new drug, I'll be the first one on it, believe me."

Ron Wood, who has successfully battled back against years of heavy alcoholism, says that despite not being quite a teetotaler, Richards' staying straight most of the time is definitely evident in his guitar work: "Keith is a pleasure to play with now. It was a pain on the last tour toward the end, because he was really going for it on the drinking and denial. But now he's realized that he has gotta look after himself. . . I'm not going to preach to him. I will step in if I see any danger."

In the "Ask Keith" portion of his website, (KeithRichards.com), Richards was asked to name something he's only tried once: "What was that elephant tranquilizer called? (Laughs) I tried it once and God help the elephants (laughs)."

FLEETWOOD MAC

As Lindsey Buckingham winds down his current solo acoustic tour, he's already eying working with Fleetwood Mac next year -- and revealed that basic tracks have been cut for half an album. Buckingham told Rolling Stone that all the focus on his recent solo projects has found him missing the group dynamic, explaining, "(In) the last eight or nine years, I've had a lot of growth. I sort of caught up on the need to explore the more esoteric side of the palette. Fleetwood Mac is gonna start rehearsing probably the beginning of February and I'm actually looking forward to it. I miss those guys."

Although early word has been that, as the did in 2009, Fleetwood Mac would not be touring behind a new album -- Buckingham said that might night be the case for next year's road trek: "About six, seven months ago, John (McVie) and Mick (Fleetwood) were over here and we actually cut some tracks, and we did enough for maybe half an album. But you gotta get Stevie (Nicks) on board with that, and at the time, she was really quite caught up in what she was doing. . . but I would love to do that because John and Mick were playing their asses off."

Buckingham went on to say that unlike Fleetwood Mac's chief '70s competition the Eagles, artistic differences seemed to always override a smooth ride for the band: "Sometimes I wish we were the Eagles. That's one thing they've always been able to do is want the same thing for the same reasons. They probably don't share the same sensibilities as people and they may not spend much time together, but somehow they're able to put that aside and get on with the business of doing business, and there's something to be said for that."

Buckingham understands that the psycho drama between him and former lover Stevie Nicks -- not to mention the break-up of Christine and John McVie -- was the gasoline that ran the engine of the band: "One of the real draws of Fleetwood Mac beyond the music in those earlier days was this musical soap opera. And it was a very literal portrayal of what was really going on behind the scenes. Y'know, you could certainly make a case for saying that we made a great deal of success on a career level but we were pretty dismal failures in our personal lives, for any number of years, y'know?"

HURRICANE SANDY: COMING TOGETHER

Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Jon Bon Jovi, Sting, and members of Aerosmith, headlined Friday night's (November 2nd) Red Cross telethon, Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together, which aired live on numerous stations and networks. Springsteen and The E Street Band closed the show with a powerful reading of "Land Of Hope And Dreams," the tune which debuted during the band's 1999-2000 reunion dates and was re-recorded for Springsteen's recent Wrecking Ball collection.

Billy Joel and his band performed "Miami 2017 (I've Seen The Lights Go Out On Broadway)" with newly re-written lyrics touching upon the storm which pummeled and displaced thousands on the East Coast, before being joined by Springsteen and Steven Tyler, who all backed Jimmy Fallon, who sang an at points an inaudible rendition of the Drifters' "Under The Boardwalk." Jon Bon Jovi, a musician, like Springsteen who made his bones on the now devastated Jersey Shore, gave fans a double shot of Bon Jovi favorites, singing "Who Says You Can't Go Home" and "Livin' On A Prayer." Sting performed an acoustic rendition of "Message In A Bottle," and Aerosmith's Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, and Brad Whitford performed "Dream On."

Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together, was hosted by Matt Lauer and featured appearances and performances by included appearances by Cristina Aguilera, Mary J. Blige, Tina Fey, Jon Stewart, Whoopi Goldberg, Kevin Bacon, and Danny DeVito.

DOGS PREFER CLASSICAL MUSIC TO HEAVY METAL

A Colorado State University professor said his research indicates dogs are soothed by classical music while heavy metal makes them anxious. The study, which took place over a period of four months, exposed 117 dogs to three types of music: classical, heavy metal and psychoacoustic classical music specifically designed to sooth animals. The study's author, Lori Kogan, said that the dogs listening to classical music were generally more relaxed and restful than the dogs in the no-music control group, while those listening to heavy metal displayed increased anxiety and unrest. The psychoacoustic music only had a minimal calming effect on the canines. (UPI)

LIVING CLOSE TO A BAR COULD ENCOURAGE YOU TO DRINK MORE

A Finnish study finds that when a person moved a little over a half-mile closer to a bar, the odds of them becoming a heavy drinker rose 17-percent. Researchers say they considered other factors, such as poverty levels, and people who had bars move closer to them, and the results remained the same. Researchers say it's possible that restricting bars' hours could limit locals' risky drinking. (Reuters)

FOUR REASONS TO TURN OFF THE TELEVISION (Yahoo)

1. TV is bad news for your heart. A study published early this year in the European Heart Journal discovered that people who own a television and a car tend to be at increased risk for heart attack. It makes sense. When you're parked in front of the tube or in the driver's seat, you are most likely sitting around -- and spending hours being sedentary is not helping your heart health at all.

2. TV is linked to bad eating habits. A nationwide survey from May published in Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine showed that there is indeed a link between watching a lot of TV and unhealthy eating habits. The survey of over 12,000 students in grades 5 to 10 found that television watching is associated with both unhealthy snacking while viewing, and with unhealthy eating at all times. That's real food for thought! For your youngsters -- and for you -- the recommendation is to limit daily TV viewing time and make sure you are stocked up on healthy snacks, like apples, bananas, and carrots.

3. Background TV has a negative Impact on Learning. Back in April, preliminary research sourced from the International Communication Association found that American children are being exposed to background TV for nearly four hours each day. Previous research has suggested that too much background TV may impact children's learning and development negatively. One example the study authors point to is that background TV seems to diminish reading ability. So, switch it off when no one is watching, and consider the consequences of having a TV in a youngster's bedroom.

4. There are so many other fun things to do than watch TV! When you aren't watching the boob tube, not only are you benefiting your health, but you are also opening up extra time to do all sorts of fun and life-enhancing activities. What to do with all that freed up time? Take a class and learn something new! Go for a walk in the park or take a bike ride around town. Read a book, make an elaborate meal, spend time in the community, or have a game-night with friends and family. Instead of passively watching a television show, imagine the enjoyment of having an actual dialogue in good company!

WHY YOU SHOULDN'T HANG CLOTHES TO DRY INDOORS

Researchers studied 100-homes and found that in winter 87-percent let their laundry drip-dry indoors, and two-thirds placed their laundry near heat sources. Researchers say this could cause health problems, particularly for those with asthma or allergies. A professor who studies mold warns that improper ventilation and high moisture risk growing mold. HOW TO DATE A "NERDY" GUY: (Your Tango)

Appreciate him. When some women date Nerds, they tend to focus on the "negative" side of his Nerd-dom (e.g. his logging in long hours online gaming or his dressing up like Frodo every Halloween). Instead, focus on his intelligence, faithfulness, and other great traits. Moreover, while Nerd-dom has become mainstream (even cool), it didn't used to be, and many a nerd grew up suffering at the hands of dumb guys or bitchy girls. To succeed with him, show him you aren't one of those people and that he's awesome the way he is.
Never knock his Nerdy tastes. Sure, the Star Wars posters or long days spent at Comic Con may seem silly to you, but everyone has unique interests that other people don't "get." And, really, how are a Nerd's interests any different from a non-Nerdy guy's obsession with Fantasy Football or baseball cards? To belittle or make fun of his hobbies is to belittle him, and sends the message that he isn't good enough the way he is. Instead, give him free reign to be quirky. If you do, he's more likely to zip his lip when it comes to your giant shoe collection or your secret addiction to The Housewives of New York.

Take an interest in his Nerdy stuff. While it's totally fine if you don't engage in his Nerdy hobbies, it never hurts to occasionally take an interest. Ask him why he loves his favorite sci-fi books or movies. Try playing his World of Warcraft game. Pay attention when Nerd-dom hits national news - for example, just this week Disney announced that it purchased the entire Star Wars franchise (for a sum numbering in the billions) and will release more Star Wars movies. Likewise, he should do the same for you.

Find common ground. You may have different interests, but one way to spend quality time with your Nerdy Guy is to watch sci-fi movies or TV shows that also appeal to female non-Nerds.
