ROLLING STONES

The Rolling Stones welcomed former members Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor back on stage at their 50th anniversary kick-off concert at London's O2 Arena last night (November 25th). The show also featured guest spots by Jeff Beck and Mary J. Blige. Although Wyman and Taylor weren't onstage at the same time, the show definitely showed a small amount of nostalgia for the Stones, with the band tipping it's hat to the Beatles for the opening number by performing "I Wanna Be Your Man" -- which John Lennon and Paul McCartney finished for them in 1963 giving them their first Top 20 UK hit. The Stones followed it with a triple punch of '60s classics -- "Get Off My Cloud," "It's All Over Now," and "Paint It, Black" before settling into the set. Blige stepped up to sing the Merry Clayton part in "Gimme Shelter" and Jeff Beck joined the band for the 1969 Let It Bleed outtake, "I'm Going Down."

Bill Wyman made his first appearance with the Stones since June 27th, 1990 in Basle, Switzerland, sitting in on "It's Only Rock N' Roll" and "Honky Tonk Women." Taylor was featured on the band's 1969 classic, "Midnight Rambler" -- a cornerstone of the legendary shows he played with the band between 1969 and 1973. Although he hasn't played live with the band since sitting in with them on December 15th, 1981 in Kansas City, Missouri, he added new guitar work to the 2010 expanded reissue of Exile On Main Street.

Other highlights included the live debut of the new "One More Shot," Keith Richards' take on the Some Girls favorite "Before The Make Me Run," and a full choir joining the Stones onstage for "You Can't Always Get What You Want," which kicked off the encores. Amazingly, "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" was set to close the show, but went un-played when the Stones' concert ran too long.

Mick Jagger explains that every night on tour is a new crowd, which is all the more reason to always bring his 'A-game': "Oh, yeah, every night y'have to do your best to prove to yourself you've done your best for yourself, y'know? You set yourself a certain standard, y'know, that you wanna reach every night. And obviously some nights, really, you think, 'Oh, for some reason, that's better than normal.' You never want to dip underneath a certain level."

Keith Richards admits that he's amazed that people are still curious why the Stones even want to be performing at this stage of their lives: ["Y'know, people, they go, 'Why're you still doing it at your age?!' 'Why not?!' Y'know, let's see, y'know, if someone can come along and take over the crown, or the mantle, or whatever -- cool. It wouldn't stop me from playing the music."] SOUNDCUE (:14 OC: . . . playing the music)

LED ZEPPELIN

Jimmy Page has finally shed light on the post-Led Zeppelin reunion rehearsals following the band's 2007 O2 concert, now available on CD and DVD as Celebration Day. Page, who along with John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham, kept the instrumental end of Zeppelin well-oiled following the 2007 show, and eventually brought in guest vocalists Steven Tyler and Myles Kennedy to possibly fill in for Robert Plant -- who made it clear he wanted nothing to do with gearing the band up for a reunion tour.

Page spoke about Zeppelin following through at the time with it's first official live dates since 1980, revealing to Rolling Stone, "Some of us thought we would be continuing, that there were going to be more concerts in the not-too-distant-future. Because there was a lot of work being put into the show."

He spoke frankly about Plant staying away from the trio's rehearsals: "He was busy. He was doing his Alison Krauss project. I wasn't fully aware it was going to be launched at the same time. So what do you do in a situation like that? I'd been working with the other two guys for the percentage of the rehearsals at the O2. We were connecting well. The weakness was that none of us sang."

Page revealed that tapes exist of the Page, Jones, and Bonham rehearsals: "We didn't do any professional recording. "We just had a little digital recorder. I thought it was good. I wasn't going to walk away from it. But the weakness came up again. It was, 'We gotta have a singer.'"

He went on to say that three members had an eye on recording a new album and hitting the road with another lead singer: "It sounded premature. I could see what way it was going. Various people thought we should go on tour. I thought we needed a good, credible album, not do something that sounded like we were trying to milk the O2. The timing wasn't the best. We had put so much toward the O2. And the three of us were catching up with stuff. It was very good, seriously promising. But there was this other thing going on. . . And that's it."

Jimmy Page explained that the O2 concert was a chance to rectify some of Zeppelin's less-than-stellar post-breakup reunion performances: "We had the opportunity to get together again -- which is what we had there, to do the O2 -- with those, y'know, things that left us a bit uncomfortable like the Live Aid and Atlantic 40th (anniversary concert), etc. But we really just wanted to get it right and go out there to play to people who maybe never heard us, who had heard about this reputation and what we're about, and basically go out and stand out and be counted for what we were."

JIMI HENDRIX

Coming on March 5th is the latest Jimi Hendrix vault release, called, People, Hell and Angels. Rolling Stone reported that the material, which was recorded in 1968 and 1969, is yet another dip into the sessions for his infamous unfinished fourth album, First Rays Of The New Rising Sun, with "Hendrix (toying) with horns, keyboards, percussion and a second guitar, exploring fresh diversions from his legendary guitar work." Hendrix would have turned 70 on Tuesday (November 27th).

The collection follows 2010's multi-disc set, West Coast Seattle Boy: The Jimi Hendrix Anthology, and Valleys Of Neptune, which were released earlier that year.

Graham Nash has recently been mining Stephen Stills solo tape vault for a career-spanning retrospective, which will obviously be of interest to longtime Hendrix collectors: "Among all that stuff, he's got an album that he wants to put together of him playing with Hendrix in London the early '70s. It sounds like Stephen in the studio with Jimi (laughs)."

AC/DC

AC/DC's classic 1980 album Back In Black is one of 27 albums selected to enter the Grammy Hall of Fame this year, according to an announcement by the Recording Academy. Back In Black, AC/DC's seventh studio album, willjoin more than 900 recordings already in the Grammy Hall's collection. Other records going in at the same time include works from Paul McCartney & Wings, Elton John, Billy Joel, Bob Dylan, Frank Sinatra and Whitney Houston.

Recording Academy CEO Neil Portnow said, "These entries continue the tradition of including a wide variety of recordings that have inspired and influenced both fans and music makers for generations. Memorable for being both culturally and historically significant, we are proud to add them to our growing catalog of outstanding recordings that have become apart of our musical, social and cultural history."

  • AC/DC has been nominated for Grammy Awards seven times, but only won once, taking home a trophy for "Best Hard Rock Performance" in 2010 for the track "War Machine."
  • Back In Black is one of the few hard rock albums inducted into the Hall.
  • The disc was originally released in July 1980 and was the band's first effort since the death several months earlier of singer Bon Scott.
  • The group decided to continue on after Scott's death and enlisted Scottish vocalist Brian Johnson.
  • Back In Blackwent on to become one of the biggest rock albums of all time and one of the biggest-selling albums of any genre, eventually selling 21 million copies in the U.S. alone.
  • Back In Black is tied for fifth place with Billy Joel's Greatest Hits Vols I & II on the list of the biggest selling albums in the U.S.

HOW YOUR MOOD AFFECTS YOUR WALLET

Results of a new study published in the journal Psychological Science has found sadness can lead to impulsive, and irresponsible financial choices. For the study, participants watched either a sad or neutral video and then were offered a monetary reward. They were given a choice- they could receive the money after the session, or receive a bigger reward that would be mailed to them in the future. Participants who watched the neutral video chose to have the reward mailed to them 13-to-34-percent more often than people who watched the sad video. Scientists involved with the study say people who are sad tend to focus more on the present, rather than the future. (Women's Health)

SCIENTISTS DISCOVER A NEW SMELL

Scientists have discovered a new scent, but you can only smell it in a laboratory. Scientists called the smell "olfactory white." They say it is a mixture of many different smelly compounds, in other words it's the equivalent of white noise for the nose. Scientists explain that most smells in the real world come from mixtures of compounds, and humans are good at telling the mixtures apart, but poor at picking individual compounds out of those mixtures. Participants rated the scent of olfactory white as right in the middle of the scale for both pleasantness and edibility. (Fox News)

ONLINE SHOPPING TIPS FOR CYBER MONDAY(Better Business Bureau)

  • Shop on trustworthy websites - Shoppers should start with the Better Business Bureau to check on the seller's Business Review for customer satisfaction at www.bbb.org. Always look for the B-B-B seal and other widely-recognized "trustmarks" on retailer websites and click on the seals to confirm that they are valid.
  • Protect your personal information - Take time to read the site's privacy policy and understand what personal information is being requested and how it will be used. If there isn't one posted, it should be taken as a red flag that personal information may be sold to others without permission.
  • Beware of deals that sound too good to be true - Offers on websites and in unsolicited e-mails can often sound too good to be true, especially extreme low prices on hard-to-get items. Consumers should always go with their instincts and not be afraid to pass up a "deal" that might cost them dearly in the end. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
  • Confirm that your online purchase is secure - Shoppers should always look in the address box for the "s" in https:// and in the lower-right corner for the "lock" symbol before paying. If there are any doubts about a site, the B-B-B recommends right-clicking anywhere on the page and select "Properties." This will let you see the real URL (website address) and the dialog box will reveal whether the site is not encrypted.
  • Pay with a credit card - It's best to use a credit card, because under Federal law, the shopper can dispute the charges if he or she doesn't receive the item. Shoppers also have dispute rights if there are unauthorized charges on their credit card, and many card issuers have "zero liability" policies under which the card holder pays nothing if someone steals the credit card number and uses it.
  • Keep documentation of your order - After completing the online order process, there may be a final confirmation page or the shopper might receive confirmation by e-mail. The B-B-B recommends saving a copy of the Web page and any e-mails for future reference and as a record of the purchase.
