Led Zeppelin met with the press yesterday. New Stones single available tomorrow. "Frampton Comes Alive - 35th Anniversary Tour" concert film. Are you a 'sitcom'? Men with red faces are hot. Checking Facebook is more tempting than sex. Penis size really does matter. Trend alert: thick-framed glasses. What to do, and when.
LED ZEPPELIN
A slightly testy Led Zeppelin met the press yesterday at New York's Museum Of Modern Art following the screening of their new concert movie, Celebration Day. Although John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham were respectful to the writers and reporters, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant were clearly annoyed that they genuinely wanted to know if the band is considering any new work or concerts. Page and Plant would respond to any reunion questions by staring the reporter down -- Plant alternately pretended to snore and even called a reporter from The Associated Press a "schmuck" for asking about the future of Led Zeppelin. Later that night the band attended the premiere at the Ziegfeld Theatre.
Page and Plant -- who, while hawking their five-year-old reunion concert CD/DVD -- couldn't be bothered to honestly answer the press, who tried gamely to play along with the fact that they were supposed to ignore the 300 pound gorilla in the room, which was that Led Zeppelin were right in front of them and NOT making music. At one point Page tersely answered a reporter's reunion question: "Well, look; at this time four years ago, we'd have been rehearsing to get to the O2. In December it'll be five years since the O2. So, that's a number of years that pass in between, so that seems unlikely, if there wasn't a whisper, or a hint that we would get together to do something or other. I'd say even two years ago, or whatever. Seems pretty unlikely, that's what I think."
Rock writer Bill Flanagan, the editorial director MTV Networks, served as the moderator and gently coaxed Plant into finally answering the reunion question with a bit of respect for the reporters in the room: "We were so happy that we were actually gettin' it right (coughs) and taking it beyond what we thought we were about that night. There were moments in it where we just took off and pushed off in some place. The responsibility of doing that four nights a week for the rest of time is a different thing. 'Cause, we're pretty good at what we do; the tail should never wag the dog. If we're capable of doing something in our own time that will be what will happen. So any inane questions who are from syndicated outlets (laughter), you should just really think what it takes to answer a question like that in one second, y'know? We know what we've got."
ROLLING STONES
The Rolling Stones' new single, "Doom And Gloom" will be available for download starting tomorrow (Thursday, October 11th.) The band posted an announcement about the track on their official website, RollingStones.com, saying, "'Doom And Gloom' marks the first time that Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, and Ronnie Wood have been in the studio together for seven years. Taken from the forthcoming album GRRR!, 'Doom And Gloom' was recorded in Paris and produced by longtime Rolling Stones producer Don Was, who has worked with the band on five previous albums (Voodoo Lounge, Stripped, Bridges To Babylon, Live Licks, A Bigger Bang), with the radio mix produced by Jeff Bhasker."
Keith Richards recently let it slip to Q Magazine that the long-rumored Stones shows in New York and London are a go -- but couldn't be nailed down for the dates and number of shows in each city. Although far less inclined to stay touring for years on end -- which is what Richards would prefer to do -- Mick Jagger told us that he still gets his "Rocks Off" hitting the stage most nights: "You never really know what's gonna happen. You never know what the audience is gonna be like, you never know how they're gonna behave, you, you expect them to do certain things, but they don't always do that, and you don't always do the same things that you've done the night before. That's what brings you into live playing, what makes live playing so interesting."
PETER FRAMPTON
Peter Frampton will be world premiering his Frampton Comes Alive - 35th Anniversary Tour concert film on November 12th at the IMAX Theater at Montreal Science Center. In addition to the regular $50 ticket to see the film, which culls Frampton's favorite performances from his recent tour, a special $150 ticket gets you the chance to enter early, rub shoulders with Frampton, as well as get a free DVD copy of the concert flick, and the chance to get Frampton to sign your memorabilia.
All proceeds go to the Saku Koivu Foundation, whose main function is to "raise funds for the advancement and ongoing development of Montreal General Hospital services and facilities."
Peter Frampton said that he's able to do such a musically varied show because of his touring band, which can literally nail anything Frampton throws at them: "The good thing about this band; Stanley Sheldon from the Comes Alive! album and I'm In You and Where I Should Be is back after many years. So this band has changed a little in as much as we're able to capture more of the old feel as well as the new feel of the more recent stuff. We have changed things up; every time we come out we do 'Show Me The Way' -- each year, we change it up."
ARE YOU A 'SITCOM'?
A new group of women dubbed the "SITCOMs" (single in twenties, clinging on to memories) is becoming the fastest growing group looking for love online. They tend to be beautiful, have successful careers and seem like the perfect catch for any man -- but they go quickly from one relationship to the next in the elusive search for The One. The SITCOM tag is particularly appropriate because, supposedly these women's love lives resemble those that make up "the meat" of a television situation comedy. A new survey asked female and male members of a dating site the reasons why they haven't found the right partner. The most popular answer was that the people they meet online do not match up to a previous lover. A total of 41 percent of women and 39 percent of men polled said they still had feelings for an ex-lover and this made it difficult to commit to a new partner. Other commitments were cited as reasons love had not blossomed, with 24 percent of women polled saying they were too busy at work, and a further 29 percent saying they didn't like meeting new people in bars and clubs. And for almost a third or men and women a big reason for not finding new love was not having enough friends to help them mix with new people. (Daily Mail)
MEN WITH RED FACES ARE HOT
Men with red complexions are apparently irresistibly attractive to women. In a study, women were asked to manipulate pictures of men's faces to make them more attractive -- and the first thing they did was make their skin tone redder. It is thought that rosy cheeks are a sign of good circulation and therefore an indication of good health. The women, who had the choice of adding red or yellow tones, tended to plump for a degree of pinkness. They added even more red when asked to make the men look as dominant as possible. (Daily Mail)
CHECKING FACEBOOK IS MORE TEMPTING THAN SEX
Checking social networking sites is more tempting than sex and cigarettes, according to a new study. Researchers at Chicago University's Booth Business School used BlackBerrys to log reports about participants' willpower and desires over seven days. They had to identify what the desire was and how strong they felt it was, as well as if it conflicted with other desires and what decision they had made - whether to accept or resist the pull. The results showed Facebook, Twitter or other social networks yearnings were ranked as the hardest desires to resist. (Daily Mail)
PENIS SIZE REALLY DOES MATTER
Although it's been widely debated whether or not it's the "size of the boat or the motion of the ocean" -- a new study supports the former. Stuart Brody, a psychologist at the University of the West of Scotland, asked 323 female students about their past sexual encounters, penile-vaginal intercourse, and whether penis length influenced their ability to orgasm. He found that women who reported the highest amount of vaginal orgasms were more likely to say that longer is better. "This might be due at least in part to greater ability of a longer penis to stimulate the entire length of the vagina, and the cervix," Brody said. (Jezebel.com)
TREND ALERT: THICK-FRAMED GLASSES
Thick frames aren't only for nerds and hipsters anymore. David and Victoria Beckham have been sporting the look -- as have the models at Fashion Week. Emily O'Brien, editor at fashion site Styloko.com said: "Thick-rimmed glasses work because they play into that whole geek chic look, but there's still something quite sexy about a pair of frames - it's that quiet-librarian-cum-sexy-secretary thing that's so alluring."

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO, AND WHEN (Men's Health)
Weekdays at 6 a.m.: Send Your Most Important Email
"We all know we shouldn't check email first thing when we wake up, but we do," says Laura Vanderkam, author of What the Most Successful People Do Before Breakfast. "An email sent first thing in the morning will be on top of the pile when people start wading through their inbox, so they're more likely to open it."
Monday at 9 a.m.: Zone in on Your Most Tedious Task
Mondays are a terrible time to get anyone's attention, says Katy Tynan, author of Survive Your Promotion. It's not because they're hungover -- though that's a possibility -- but because their inboxes are on fire. Your move: Clean out your inbox or focus on that looming tedious task. "We wake up with a fresh supply of self-discipline which we use up throughout the day," says Vanderkam. "In the morning it's as strong as it will ever be."
Monday or Tuesday Afternoon: Schedule a Weekly Check-in with Your Boss
When it comes to face-time with your manager, scheduling a weekly one-on-one on Monday or Tuesday is much better than putting one on the calendar for Thursday or Friday, says Joel Garfinkle, author of Getting Ahead: Three Steps to Take Your Career to the Next Level. You'll leave with action steps for the week instead of leaving for the weekend.
Wednesday Afternoon: Gather Your Team Together for a Meeting
Johnny Cash was on to something with his song, "Wednesday Car." "It's an old saying that you want to buy a car built on a Wednesday," says Tynan. Why? It's the middle of the week when people are focused -- not sloppily returning from a weekend, or already looking to the next. Your move: Keep meetings before or after lunch -- 10 a.m. or 2 p.m. both work well. Otherwise you're dealing with tired, hungry, or zoned-out people resentful they're missing their kid's game.
Thursday Afternoon: Ask for That Promotion
Before you choose a day, know two things: your boss' schedule and your company's cycle, says Tynan. "If your boss has Wednesday a.m. meetings, don't ask for a meeting right after it," she adds. If you work for more of a seasonal company, asking for a raise when business is bad isn't your best move. Also, schedule a meeting with your boss after you accomplish something significant, says Garfinkle.
Thanks for listening to The Eagle while you work. Keep it fabulous, Houston!
