Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash anniversary. Stones song list for upcoming shows. Most awesome guitar riffs of the 1980s. Kiss' "Monster" debuts at #3. Instant pain relief for oral burns. Is feminism old fashioned? Are health check ups necessary? Five foods perfect for hiding an engagement ring.

LYNYRD SKYNYRD

It was 35 years ago on Saturday (October 20th, 1977), that a plane carrying Lynyrd Skynyrd crashed in a swamp near Gillsburg, Mississippi. At the time, the group was en route to its next show in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The crash took the lives of lead singer Ronnie Van Zant; guitarist Steve Gaines and his sister, backup singer Cassie Gaines; Lynyrd Skynyrd manager Dean Kilpatrick, as well as the plane's two pilots.

All the other members of the band suffered horrific injuries, from which they eventually recovered. Two years later, survivors Gary Rossington and Allen Collins (guitars), Billy Powell (keyboards) and Leon Wilkeson (bass) formed a new group, the Rossington-Collins Band. A decade after the plane crash, the surviving members of Skynyrd regrouped under the legendary name and played a series of dates to mark the anniversary with Johnnie Van Zant, the younger brother of Ronnie Van Zant, stepping in as his permanent replacement.

Gary Rossington -- who broke both arms, both legs, both wrists, both ankles and his pelvis in the plane crash -- was asked what motivates him and his bandmates to keep the Skynyrd name alive: ["Gosh, it's just, y'know, you gotta carry on, and go through it. If you take the lives of just any seven individuals and follow them, tragedy happens, y'know? And it just happened to us. And we just kept carryin' on, we're doin' it for the guys that aren't with us, and for us, and for the music and the name and -- it's what we are."] SOUNDCUE (:17 OC: . . . what we are)

Recently released was the limited-edition DVD -- Wolfgang's Vault Presents "Day On The Green 1977: Featuring Peter Frampton and Lynyrd Skynyrd." The show, filmed on July 2nd, 1977 was one of several Day on the Green summer festivals presented by the late Bill Graham at Northern California's Oakland Coliseum Stadium. The concert features Skynyrd just three-and-a-half months before the tragic plane crash.

Out now is Lynyrd Skynyrd's latest album, Last Of A Dyin' Breed -- which is their best charting studio set since 1977's Street Survivors collection.

    ROLLING STONES

The Rolling Stones are letting it be known that their upcoming shows will span their entire 50 years. Vintage Vinyl News reported that band uploaded a photo of a song list on a yellow legal pad to their official Twitter account. Among the rarities found on the list were such early staples as "Route 66," "Little Red Rooster," "It's All Over Now," "Lady Jane," "Not Fade Away," "The Last Time," and "Ruby Tuesday." Other favorites included such '80s classics as "Worried About You," "She's So Cold," and the 1994 Voodoo Lounge standout, "You Got Me Rocking."

Mick Jagger and Keith Richards explained that the setlists to their concerts usually are decided by Jagger, and that there's no great message in each show's sequencing: "(Richards): Michael, he comes up with the setlists, because he's gotta sing 'em, y'know? Unless I say suddenly, 'Hey Mick, you've got 10 songs in the same key,' I don't interfere, so we make it up -- the man's gotta sing 'em, y'know? (Jagger:) You pick the one you think is best for the night, really. I wasn't thinking, 'God, this is a metaphor. . .' (Richards): It might be a sore throat."

The Stones' song list posted on Twitter:

MOST AWESOME GUITAR RIFFS OF THE 1980s

AC/DC leads the list of acts whose guitarwork made Gibson.com's survey of the most awesome guitar riffs of the 1980s. The song "Back In Black" landed at Number One, followed up by offerings from the Rolling Stones, Ozzy Osbourne, Scorpions, Def Leppard, Judas Priest and more.

Gibson.com wrote about "Back In Black," "Perhaps the greatest riff-oriented album of all time is the band's 1980 farewell to dearly departed singer Bon Scott. Brothers Angus and Malcolm Young cooked up some of the greatest riffs of their career on this magnum opus . . . but none is more memorable than the hard and heavy title track."

    • The complete list of Gibson's top 10 riffs of the 1980s was:
      1. AC/DC - "Back In Black" (Back In Black)
      2. The Rolling Stones - "Start Me Up" (Tattoo You)
      3. Ozzy Osbourne - "Crazy Train" (Blizzard Of Ozz)
      4. Scorpions - "Rock You Like A Hurricane" (Love At First Sting)
      5. Def Leppard - "Photograph" (Pyromania)
      6. Judas Priest - "Breaking The Law" (British Steel)
      7. Michael Jackson - "Beat It"
      8. The Clash - "Should I Stay or Should I Go" (Combat Rock)
      9. Guns N' Roses - "Sweet Child O'Mine" (Appetite For Destruction)
      10. Rush - "Limelight" (Moving Pictures)

    KISS

Kiss is back with a hit album, proving that nearly 40 years into their career, the band is still a force to be reckoned with. Their newly released collection, Monster, debuted on the Billboard 200 album charts at Number Three -- one position lower than 2009's Sonic Boom collection -- but tied with the band's next highest charting set, 1998's Psycho Circus.

Gene Simmons admits that the love and support the band has been given by their "Kiss Army" remains beyond their wildest imaginations: ["Kiss fans are beyond anything we ever dared hope for, in terms of fans. We were gonna be happy with just being able to sell a record and, and doing our music, but to get this kind of loyalty is beyond anything we ever expected."] SOUNDCUE (:11 OC: . . . we ever expected)

Paul Stanley, who co-produced Monster, admits that he's never surprised by how deep Kiss' fan devotion continues to run worldwide: "It really for me, resoundingly once again, I guess validates for me why this band exists. It's not a tepid recreation of the past, it's really an ageless beast that dominates at will. It's timeless."

DISSOLVABLE ORAL STRIPS PROVIDE INSTANT PAIN RELIEF FOR BURNS

Everyone has sipped their coffee too soon and scorched the roof of their mouth, but now relief is in sight! A dissolvable oral strip has been developed to treat pain caused by ingestion of hot foods and liquids. The non-toxic strip will contain benzocaine, a local anesthetic, and is applied directly to the affected area inside the mouth where it eventually dissolves. The strip also promotes healing. IS FEMINISM "OLD-FASHIONED"?

Results of an online poll suggests women no longer need feminism. In the poll results, just one in seven women describes herself as a "feminist." One third of women polled said they view traditional radical feminism as "too aggressive" towards men, and ne in five women describes feminism as "old fashioned," and "not relevant" to their generation. The conductor of the polls says this proves how much feminism has achieved-- because women no longer feel oppressed. (Daily Mail)

      HEALTH CHECK-UPS UNNECESSARY, STUDY SAYS

A Danish study finds that having general health checks does not reduce the risk of death. Researchers studied a large group of people over a long period of time, and some people received general health check-ups and others did not. There were no differences in the number of deaths between the two groups, including deaths from heart disease and cancer. Researchers say that more research is needed to further explore the possible misleading and harmful effects of general health check-ups. (NY Times)

FIVE FOODS PERFECT FOR HIDING AN ENGAGEMENT RING (Your Tango)

      1) Ice Cube. To catch her completely off-guard, take the liquid approach to surprising her with a ring. Freeze the ring inside an ice cube and then add it to her favorite cocktail. There will be enough time for solid preparation on your end as the cube melts and genuine surprise on her end when she finds a floating diamond in her drink.

      2) Oyster Shell. Buy some oysters to have as appetizers and place the ring inside one of the shells (after washing it out). Whether you want the proposal to take place at home or in a restaurant, mix up the schedule by popping the question before dinner rather than after. That way, the two of you can enjoy a romantic meal rather than one filled with awkward tension and sweating.

      3) Baked Potato. The key to combining engagement rings with food is to make sure the food vessel lends itself well to being opened -- a baked potato is a great example. Throw a couple of steaks on the grill, sauté vegetables and bake some potatoes for an enjoyable meal at home. Prepare her potato by making a slit down the center and sticking the ring inside it, so that it's still visible.

      4) Lobster Claw. Seafood turns sexy with this fresh take on incorporating engagement rings into food. If you're apprehensive about the ring getting damaged but still want to present it as part of a meal, go for the simpler approach of sliding it onto a lobster claw. It's easily visible, elegant and equally romantic. The vibrant red brilliantly contrasts with silver or gold, turning the Big Question into an artsy composition.

      5) Cracker Jacks. We all remember ripping open Cracker Jack boxes to discover the prizes hidden inside. Recreate the adult version of that anticipation by replacing the actual prize with an engagement ring. Reseal the box and present it to her for a unique and youthful proposal, plus it's so much better than getting plastic jewelry.
