Rolling Stones latest greatest hits set. Thin Lizzy mom upset. "Last Of A Dyin' Breed" debuts at #14. More than half of me rely on women to pick clothes. People follow eating habits of people they eat with. Dogs are more empathetic. Signs you need to lose weight.
ROLLING STONES
The Rolling Stones will release their latest greatest hits set, titled, GRRR! on November 13th. The career-spanning collection -- which features a bizarre album cover featuring a drawing of a gorilla with the Stones' signature tongue-and-lips logo -- will be available in several different formats -- including a three-CD 50 track version and a four-CD Super-Deluxe version featuring 80 tracks.
Among the highlights on the set are "Come On" -- the Stones' cover of the Chuck Berry rarity, which was their first single released in June 1963, "The Last Time," "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction," "Get Off Of My Cloud," "Jumping Jack Flash," "Honky Tonk Women," "Brown Sugar," "Tumbling Dice," "Miss You," and "Start Me Up," among many others. GRRR! features two new studio recordings recently completed by the Stones in Paris, France -- "Gloom And Doom" and "One Last Shot."
After 50 years in the spotlight, Mick Jagger, feels that people still don't comprehend that despite having a family and other interests, fronting the Stones isn't the only thing going on in his life: "Sometimes people find it hard to understand that you could be all of these things at once (laughs). And y'know, people put their own image on you, y'know, like they do on an actor or actress, or any other popular figure. They put their own idea on you. And that's what you're for, just a personal interpretation."
Ron Wood feels that he was actually born a Rolling Stone, and it simply took until 1975 for him to actually become part of the group: "I was born with those songs in my mouth, anyway. Y'know, you can name any song of their. . . And I was with it, y'know, I didn't have to learn it. When I joined the band back in, '74, or whenever and I had to learn 160 songs, or something -- that was my initiation down in Woodstock -- I ended up teaching them to the band! I mean, I knew the songs. I'd never played them before, but I just knew them."
THIN LIZZY
Philomena Lynott, the mother of Thin Lizzy's late-singer and bassist Phil Lynott, has taken Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney to task for using her son's 1976 classic "The Boys Are Back In Town" during last week's Republican National Convention. Philomena, who wrote the 1996 biography of her son, My Boy: The Philip Lynott Story, slammed the GOP ticket, telling Ireland's HotPress.com, "I am really upset at Philip's music being used in Mitt Romney's campaign in a political way that Philip would not have approved of. As far as I am concerned, Mitt Romney's opposition to gay marriage and to civil unions for gays makes him anti-gay -- which is not something that Philip would have supported. He had some wonderful gay friends, as indeed I do, and they deserve equal treatment in every respect, whether in Ireland or the United States."
She went on to say: "Neither would Philip have supported his policy of taxing the poor and offering tax cuts to the rich, which Paul Ryan is advocating. There is certainly no way that I would want the Lynott name to be associated with any of those ideas."
Phil Lynott was bi-racial, with his mother being Irish and his father Afro-Guyanese. Philomena explained: "There is a black President of America, which to me -- as it would have been to Philip, as a proud, black Irishman -- is wonderfully symbolic. I have a lot of time for Barack Obama, so to hear 'The Boys Are Back In Town' being appropriated by Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan in their campaign against him is deeply upsetting."
Phil Lynott died on January 4th, 1986 of multiple organ failure due to substance abuse. He was 36 years old. His bandmate, guitarist Scott Gorham leads the current edition of Thin Lizzy.
LYNYRD SKYNYRD
Lynyrd Skynyrd are going strong and feeling the love with their new album, Last Of A Dyin' Breed -- which is their best charting studio set since 1977's Street Survivors collection. Last Of A Dyin' Breed debuted at Number 14 -- a marked improvement on 2009's Gods & Guns, which just made it into the Top 20 when it peaked at Number 18. Guitarist Rickey Medlocke told us that over the past 40 years, Skynyrd has essentially become a genre unto itself: "I think that Lynyrd Skynyrd is actually a well-rounded, accepted band, and it's just kind of funny -- I think I got reprimanded here not too long ago when I said that all the country bands wanted to be Lynyrd Skynyrd, so, y'know, I'm sorry I said that but I meant it. How about that! The deal is I think we set the standards in a lot of stuff, the band did years ago, and still does today."
MORE THAN HALF OF MEN RELY ON WOMEN TO PICK CLOTHES
More than half of men confess that they rely on the women in their life to pick out their outfits for them for the next day. And when they do actually choose their own outfits, half admit they still ask their partner or mother to 'approve' the ensemble before they leave the house. The survey, by menswear brand Jacamo, also found when men are left alone with their wardrobe, one in six admit they do not care about how they look and throw on any old item. One in three said they get dressed in less than two minutes. (Daily Mail)
PEOPLE MIRROR COMPANIONS' DATING HABITS
People tend to follow the eating habits of the people they eat with even if they're trying to diet. Dr. Eric Robinson, a psychologist at the University of Birmingham, said this might explain why women often complain they get heavier when they have a boyfriend -- because they copy his eating habits. The study found when the women ate with someone asked to pick unhealthy options of food, they selected similar options -- and when they ate alone or with someone who chose healthier foods, they selected healthier options. DOGS ARE MORE EMPATHETIC TO PEOPLE THAN OTHER PEOPLE ARE
New research found that dogs may respond to our emotions better than any other species -- including other humans. The researchers found that pups will approach strangers in distress to comfort them, regardless of expectation of reward or care. The research by Goldsmiths University doctors concluded that dogs nuzzle and lick humans they think are in distress -- behaving in a submissive manner designed to offer comfort. Eighteen pet dogs, spanning a range of ages and breeds, were exposed to four separate 20-second experimental conditions in which either the dog's owner or an unfamiliar person pretended to cry, hummed in an odd manner, or carried out a casual conversation. Significantly more dogs looked at, approached and touched the humans as they were crying as opposed to humming, and no dogs responded during talking. (Daily Mail)
SIGNS YOU NEED TO LOSE WEIGHT (Yahoo!)
Your Clothes Don't Fit - The last time you tried to squeeze into your favorite jeans, you almost fainted, and has your roommate shrunk your bathing suit? If your clothes don't fit, it might be a sign you need to lose weight... or maybe your roommate is just playing a prank...
Your Mother Mentions It - Moms are fantastically tactful and loving people, so if your mother gently broaches the issue of your weight with you, especially in regards to your health, chances are, she has a point. Give her a patient ear, and listen without being offended. She may be telling you a difficult truth - you need to lose weight.
You Have No Energy - If you're constantly feeling sluggish and tired, it may be another sign you need to lose weight, especially if you've never had energy issues before. Of course, there are many other causes for a sudden drop in your lust for life (like depression), so this is also a tipoff to see your doctor.
Your Doctor Suggests It - and speaking of your doctor, if he or she mentions your weight as a health issue, it's definitely a sign you need to lose weight, seriously! Being overweight can lead to serious chronic and even deadly health issues, like sleep apnea, diabetes, heart disease, and more. If your doctor feels you're at risk for any of these, listen to her, and ask for her help in putting together a weight loss plan just for you.
You Avoid Mirrors - If you're not feeling good about how you look, it's another sign you need to lose weight. You might be your own worst critic, but sometimes, you have to trust your instinct and listen to your inner voice.
Your BMI Says - Your Body Mass Index number is another sign you need to lose weight, or even gain weight. The BBC website has an excellent free BMU calculator that takes into account your height, weight, age, and more, to tell you what your number is, and what it means.
Your Scale - I don't normally suggest using a scale to gauge your weight (it can be a little deceiving), but it's another tool in your kit of figuring out whether you need to lose weight. If you're not sure whether or not you need to lose weight, a step on the scale may add a little more illumination.
You Don't Know What You Eat - Most adult women need to consume about 2,000 to 2,500 calories per day to keep at a healthy weight. If you have no idea what you eat, or how many calories your diet provides you, then it's another sign you need to lose weight. This would be an ideal time to start a food journal, to see what you eat, and when, and what your daily caloric intake might be.
Thanks for listening to The Eagle while you work. Keep it fabulous, Houston!
