THE BEATLES

Robert Rodriguez's latest book, the groundbreaking, Revolver - How The Beatles Reimagined Rock 'N' Roll, touches upon the fact that the seeds of the "Fab Four's" split happened well before Yoko Ono's arrival. Rodriguez, who's best known for his two groundbreaking Beatles FAQ books, sheds light on the fact that Paul McCartney walked out on the band during their June 21st, 1966 recording session at Abbey Road Studios, which produced the John Lennon classic, "She Said, She Said" -- presumably leaving George Harrison to supply the bass work for the track.

Rodriguez said that in recent years, who exactly the bassist is on "She Said, She Said" -- and more importantly why Paul McCartney isn't the bassist -- has been one of the biggest unanswered questions in all of "Beatledom:" "It's been this question mark hanging out there. In (McCartney's musical memoir) Many Years From Now, he tosses that out there as an aside -- 'Yeah, I didn't play bass on that. . . I don't know what happened. . . We had a barney and I said 'F - you' and stormed off and they said, 'We'll do it without you. . .' and it's like, what?! (Beatles author Mark) Lewisohn does his book -- and he's got more coming -- and you sort of expect the insider's secret research perspective, but nobody touched it. It doesn't even get mentioned in (The) Beatles Recording Sessions."

Rodriguez explains that although the band briefly mention the walk-out during January 1969's Let It Be sessions, the mere thought of McCartney abandoning the Beatles at work is inconceivable: "Y'know, the most satisfying aspect of the whole story was coming up with that quote from the Twickenham sessions where they actually speak to it when it was still a relatively recent event. That's like wow! Y'know, that was a really cool revelation, y'know, actually acknowledging that it actually happened. And just within the context of their career, y'know, Paul -- Mr. Type-A ambitious, driven-Beatle -- really, you're gonna walk off the session just as the album, the most ambitious thing you've ever done is coming to a close? In their career there's nothing to compare it to, it's just unbelievable."

LED ZEPPELIN

The first concrete date for the heavily rumored Led Zeppelin live CD/DVD from 2007 has been posted by London's The Sun, citing a November 22nd release date. The paper -- which is hardly the most reputable resource for rock release schedules -- posted that the show, which was captured during Zeppelin's reunion show on December 10th, 2007 at London's O2 Arena, will be released on CD, DVD, and Blu-ray disc on November 22nd.

Yesterday (September 11th,) the band posted the audio introduction from "Good Times, Bad Times" in a YouTube post on its official Led Zeppelin Facebook page. The tune served as the opening number for the 2007 one-off reunion.

Jason Bonham, who filled in for his dad, the late John Bonham, at the O2 gig has officially drummed with Led Zeppelin several times, beginning with the Atlantic Records 40th anniversary concert in 1988. He said at the time that he never assumed that the job of taking over for his father was automatically his: "I had to work at it, really prove that I could do it, and not just say, 'Hey, I'm John Bonham's son, I should be doing it.' You've got to earn this, 'cause there's a million drummers out there that would love to cut your throat right now and take over.'"

NEIL YOUNG

Neil Young fans are in luck this year, with not one but two Crazy Horse releases in 2012. Coming on October 30th is the new Psychedelic Pill collection, which features eight new songs, plus a bonus track. The double-CD is and triple-vinyl set is available for pre-order -- with the vinyl edition coming on November 23rd. As with Young and Crazy Horse's June release, Americana, full-length videos for each of the songs will be available for viewing and purchase. A "recommended high-resolution 24/192 full-fidelity version" of Psychedelic Pill will be released on Blu-ray and will include all the videos.

Longtime friend and collaborator David Crosby says that Young's moral integrity has always stood side-by-side with his talent: "That's basically the deal. I think it's one of the things that I've always admired about him, is that right, wrong or indifferent, he continues to grow. And I think that's always been something that I've always wanted to do and continue to do."

JEFF LYNNE

ELO's Jeff Lynne will make a rare appearance tonight (September 12th) at downtown L.A.'s Grammy Museum for a screening of the new film about his life and work. In addition to a screening of Reel To Reel: Mr. Blue Sky: The Story Of Jeff Lynne And ELO, fans will be treated to a discussion about the film featuring Lynne and moderated by Scott Goldman, the Vice President of the Grammy Foundation and MusiCares. High profile friends and artists featured in Reel To Reel include Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Tom Petty, Joe Walsh, Olivia and Dhani Harrison, Roy Orbison's widow Barbara Orbison, and Monty Python's Eric Idle.

Following a decade long silence, Lynne will return on October 9th with two new albums -- the covers collection, Long Wave, and his note-for-note re-recordings of ELO's biggest hits -- Mr. Blue Sky - The Very Best Of Electric Light Orchestra.

Shortly before his 2001 death, George Harrison shed light on choosing Lynne to be his collaborator for his 1987 comeback album, Cloud Nine: "So I thought, well, I don't want someone who's going to boss me about and turn me into something I'm not. I want someone who has a bit of (laughs) respect for me (laughs) and for my past. I want to respect him, too. So I gave it quite a lot of thought and I -- the only person I could think of was, who I would really like to make a record with, was Jeff Lynne. I suddenly thought, I'd been playing his records, and I thought, 'Jeff, that's it!' So, Jeff Lynne, he's it, if I can get to meet him and con him into (laughs) coming in to work with me."

WAIT TO HAVE SEX?

A new study reveals couples who wait to have sex have a better chance at being successful. According to a new study from Cornell University, women that waited to have sex for at least 182 days reported being happier, were more committed to the relationship, communicated better, and had better sex lives. "Courtship is a time for exploration and decision-making about the relationship, when partners assess compatibility, make commitments and build on emotional and physical intimacy," the researchers wrote. "The rapid entry into sexual relationships may, however, cut short this process, setting the stage for 'sliding' rather than 'deciding' to enter co-habiting unions." (LimeLife.com)
