BONNAROO MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL
Paul McCartney, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers , along with ZZ Top, will be among the headliners at this year's Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival set for June 13th to 16th in Manchester, Tennessee. Among the other high-profile acts set to appear over the four day festival are David Byrne and St. Vincent, Wilco, R. Kelly, Wu-Tang Clan, Weird Al Yankovic, Billy Idol, Dwight Yoakam, among others. Billboard reported that tickets will go on sale this Saturday (February 23rd) at 12 Noon ET.
Paul McCartney's recent setlists have been dominated with Beatles hits and rarities. He was asked if playing the songs ever brings back tough memories for him: "No, I don't really feel that. I used to -- just after the Beatles had broken up -- I think all of us thought, y'know 'Is there life after the Beatles?' And, 'It's a tough act to follow.' As time's gone by, I've rediscovered the songs. And instead of the sort of anger and the pain that we all felt when we were breaking up, I just like the songs now and they're a pleasure to do."
DON FELDER
Ousted Eagles lead guitarist Don Felder returned to the band's fold to take part in the new career-spanning documentary, History Of The Eagles. Felder, who released his second solo album, the critically acclaimed, Road To Forever, last year was fired from the Eagles in 2001 following monetary disputes with co-founders Glenn Frey, Don Henley, and Eagles manager Irving Azoff. The case was settled out of court the following year.
Felder, who has been perceived as being a thorn in the Eagles side due to the lawsuit, was asked how he came to take part in the new film, which had it's national debut on Showtime last week: "Y'know, I was asked if I would come in for about a half-day and sit and be interviewed for the film, and I gladly wanted to be part of it and I don't know if I would consider my performance that of a movie star (laughs), and I don't even know if that's an actual documentary. It's more of just a telling of the story of the life and history of the Eagles, really."
HEART
Will the original lineup of Heart reunite in April at their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction? Ultimate Classic Rock reported that according to original lead guitarist, Roger Fisher -- and former lover of guitarist Nancy Wilson -- the answer is yes. Fisher posted a message on his Facebook page, stating: "I haven't seen anyone announce it yet: THE ORIGINAL HEART LINEUP WILL PLAY AT THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY."
Back in December when the inductees were announced, Heart front-woman Ann Wilson made it pretty clear that she and sister Nancy Wilson, who have carried on leading Heart since the original lineup split in 1979, would be performing with their current, road-ready touring band, telling Rolling Stone: "The performing part might be different because of the whole Ann and Nancy Wilson versus the Heart band. We've been playing with our current band way, way longer than that. You know this is one of those things we'll need to dust off among ourselves. But we're both really happy if the initial lineup of guys gets acknowledged."
STEVEN TYLER/JOE PERRY
Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry will be awarded the prestigious ASCAP Founders Award at its upcoming 30th annual Pop Music Awards. The invitation-only gala will take place on April 17th at L.A.'s Loews Hollywood Hotel. In addition to the award, the event celebrates the top songwriters and publishers of ASCAP's most performed pop songs of 2012.
Steven Tyler said in a statement: "To be recognized by ASCAP with the Founders Award is a huge achievement. It is humbling for Joe and me to be honored for our music alongside the likes of Stevie Wonder, Neil Young, Paul McCartney and Joni Mitchell. It's been a life-long love affair and it's far from over. Besides, any society that lets Tom Waits in. . . I'm there!"
Joe Perry added: "As songwriters, it is a great honor to have ASCAP recognize Steven and me with the Founders Award. We join an incredible list of honorees and we are grateful to ASCAP for their support throughout our career."
DATING WEBSITE OFFERS TO SPONSOR TEXAS TOWN
Sugar Land, Texas has been offered more than $4.5 million dollars to change its name to "SugarDaddie.com." Steven Pasternack, CEO of SugarDaddie.com says that his dating website, that links rich older men with younger women, hopes to celebrate its 10-year anniversary by branding the affluent Houston suburb as the first dating site-sponsored city in America. Mayor James A. Thompson rejected the initial offer of $500,000, deriding it as a publicity stunt. Pasternack says that if the new offer is rejected, he is prepared to go after similarly named cities like Sugar City, Colorado or Sugar Creek, Missouri. (Time)
HAVING A BEARD IS GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH?
A recent study from the University of Southern Queensland in the UK says a man's beard may actually be beneficial to his health. The researchers found that a beard offers significant protection against the sun's harmful rays by blocking them from the face, and they also say facial hair could be beneficial for those with asthma, as the hair could catch and hold dust or other allergens. Scientists also say that a beard could keep skin looking young for longer as the growth of hair prevents water from leaving the skin. Additionally, experts say having a beard that grows under the chin or on the neck could raise body temperature and help fight off colds. (Daily Mail)
CAVEMEN HAD BETTER TEETH THAN WE DO
A new study finds cavemen had healthier smiles than we do now. Dr. Christina Adler of the Australian Center for Ancient DNA conducted the study. Adler studied the skeletal remains of 34-Europeans who lived during the Mesolithic period and found that their teeth were free of cavities and retained the vital dental plaque which protects the teeth from decay. Adler says they found that the hunter-gatherer groups had a lot less disease-associated bacteria in their mouths compared to what we have today. Scientists say our modern sugar-heavy diets provide the perfect breeding ground for cavity-causing bacteria. (Bubblenews)
SCAMMERS ARE SEDUCING MEN ONLINE
A new type of scam is popping up on the internet, and it's much more invasive than an e-mail telling you a foreign millionaire wants to wire you some cash. Police in Singapore, China are reporting a ring of online scam artists who use attractive women to "friend" victims on social media websites and then seduce them into cybersex on webcam. The scammer then takes naked pictures of the victim and threatens to post the images of the victim online if the do not pay the scammer. Police say 50-cases of this scamming occurred in 2012, and suggest not accepting friend-requests from strangers on social media sites. (CNN)
CHILDHOOD MUSIC LESSONS MAY BOOST BRAIN POWER
New research finds those violin lessons your parents pushed on you at age six might have benefitted you significantly. The study, published in the Journal of Neuroscience, found that children who were trained in music before age seven tended to have more white matter in the part of the brain responsible for connecting the motor-regions of the left and right sides of the brain. For the study, scientists took 36-musicians and divided them into two groups - those who were trained before age seven and those trained after age seven. The musicans were given a questionaire designed to learn about their music education and practice. The musicians then had their timing and sychroniszation abilities tested. Researchers found early-music-learners had more accurate timing in the experiment. One researcher says, "While starting [musical instruction] early may help you express your genius, it probably won't make you a genius." (Huffington Post)
PLASTIC SURGERY TRENDS OF 2012 REVEALED
New data released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons indicates not as many people enhanced their breasts or butts in 2012. In fact, there were five-percent less plastic surgeries performed in 2012 than in 2011. Additonally, there was a seven-percent drop in the number of women undergoing breast augmentation in 2012 from the previous year, and there were 36-percent less buttocks augmentations in that period of time as well. The focus in 2012 appeared to be more on people's faces, with the number of people undergoing injection of wrinkle-fillers increasing five-percent, and the number of people receiving Botox injections jumping up eight-percent. Eyelid lifts and fact lifts also were performed six-and-four-percent more often in 2012, respectively. (CNN)
