BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN

Bruce Springsteen will be honored as the 2013 MusiCares Person of the Year on February 8th in Los Angeles. Among the legendary presenters and performers set to appear at the Los Angeles Convention Center, West Hall will be Elton John, Neil Young, Jackson Browne, Mavis Staples, Sting, Emmylou Harris, Eddie Vedder, Alabama Shakes, Kenny Chesney, Ben Harper, Faith Hill, Jim James, Juanes, John Legend, Natalie Maines, Tim McGraw, Tom Morello, Mumford & Sons, with The Daily Show's Jon Stewart serving as the evening's host.

The MusiCares Person of the Year honor celebrates both Springsteen's "exceptional artistic achievements as well as his philanthropic work." Proceeds from the 23rd annual Person of the Year tribute provides essential support for MusiCares, which ensures that music people have a place to turn "in times of financial, medical, and personal need."

Longtime friend and bandmate Steven Van Zandt said that in all of his travels he's never encountered an artist or performer even close to Bruce Springsteen: "He's an exception to almost any rule. Y'know, anybody that follows the pattern of his sort of career choices is doomed (laughs) to failure -- I promise you, okay? It's not like. . . He is completely unique in what he can pull off -- and you get used to that."

THE BEATLES

It was 43 years ago today (January 3rd, 1970) that the Beatles recorded their final song together. Three of the four Beatles -- Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr -- gathered at London's Abbey Road studios to complete Harrison's tune "I Me Mine" for the group's Let It Be soundtrack. While it wasn't publicly known, John Lennon had quit the group the previous September. Although aware of the session, Lennon was vacationing with wife Yoko Ono in Denmark and declined to take part.

The song "I Me Mine" was written by Harrison in late 1968 about the ongoing personality clashes within the group. Harrison, McCartney, and Starr can be seen running through the song in the Let It Be film while Lennon waltzes around the rehearsal stage with Yoko. "I Me Mine" was never officially recorded during the Let It Be or the Abbey Road sessions from later that year, so when the decision was made that the song was to be included in the Let It Be film, the band re-grouped to record the track.

The January 3rd session lasted from 2:30 p.m. to 12:15 a.m. the following morning. Sixteen takes were laid down of "I Me Mine," featuring Harrison on acoustic and lead vocal, McCartney on bass, and Starr on drums. Backing vocals, Hammond Organ and electric piano from McCartney and a lead guitar by Harrison were added toward the end of the session.

After the 12th take, Harrison led the group through an impromptu run-through of Buddy Holly's 1959 hit "Peggy Sue Got Married," which has yet to be released.

The original mix of the song topped out at only one minute and 34 seconds. When producer Phil Spector was brought in to "re-produce" the Let It Be album, he added a brass ensemble and re-edited the song to stretch it out to two minutes and 25 seconds. The original undubbed short version can be found on the Beatles' Anthology 3 album.

Although overdubs for the Let It Be album stretched on until March, this was the last time the Beatles entered a recording studio to record new material prior to their official breakup on April 10th, 1970.

POLL: MOST AMERICANS BELIEVE IN LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT

We Americans are apparently a romantic bunch, with a new 60 Minutes/Vanity Fair poll finding that 56 percent of us believe in love at first sight, with the percentage even higher among married people and those in relationships. Other results from the survey:

  • Just 17 percent have ever read their romantic partner's email
  • Only six percent don't think a healthy sex life is essential for a lasting union.
  • 28 percent said "for better or worse" is the hardest marriage vow to keep, followed closely by "being faithful" at 26 percent
  • Nearly 50 percent said open relationships are a mistake and 25 percent called them a sin, with just seven percent approving of them.
  • 45 percent of Americans think asking a father for his daughter's hand in marriage is a necessary courtesy, while less than five percent found it sexist and offensive.

A FEW EXTRA POUNDS MIGHT EXTEND YOUR LIFE

A new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that people with a few extra pounds may have a lower risk of dying than those with "normal" weight. The report analyzed 97-studies from around the world, and says that obese people face the highest risk of dying. The report categorized participants into categories based on their body mass index. Skeptics of the report note that it fails to account for gender, age, fitness level and where fat is distributed on the body. The lead author of the study, Katherine Flegal, says the C-D-C is not giving advice, just compiling available information on the topic. (NY Daily News)

IPHONE 6 IN THE WORKS ALREADY?

According to The Next Web, iPhone 6 may be in the works already. The Next Web reports that software developers scanning through their logs have seen devices that identify themselves with a tag called "iPhone 6,1" and indicate they are running iOS 7. Devices use these identifying tags to communicate basic information to software, such as features and capability. IPhone 5 currently uses the tags "iPhone 5,1" or "iPhone 5,2." The Next Web reports that while this information can be faked, the logs also reveal the IP addresses of the tagged phones indicate they are located in Cupertino, California, where Apple is headquartered. Apple is expected to reveal details about its products and operating systems in June at the Worldwide Developer Conference. (Fox News)

WHAT'S THE FASTEST WAY TO GET RID OF A BAD MOOD?

According to a new study published in Psychology Science, writing down your negative thoughts and throwing them in the garbage can erase your bad mood. Lead researcher, Dr. Richard Petty, a professor at The Ohio State University, says for the experiment 83 people were asked to write down thoughts on their body image, then throw them away or keep them. They then had to rate their bodies. Petty says people who kept their papers were more likely to rate their bodies in accordance with what they wrote, and those who trashed their paper saw no change in how they rated their bodies. Petty says just as the mind controls the body, your body can control your mind. (Women's Health)

SLEEP: LESS IS MORE?

One wellbeing expert says sleeping eight-hours per night is not ideal. Wellbeing expert Daniel Browne says if you reduced your sleep from eight to seven hours a night, you might feel more alert and live longer. Recent studies have shown that people who sleep six to seven hours a night live the longest compared to people who sleep different lengths of time. Browne has tips for reducing you sleep time, including having a list of things that you want to get out of bed for, and gradually reducing your sleep by five to ten minutes each day until you find an amount of sleep that works for you. 15 HEALTHY NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS YOU CAN KEEP(The Frisky):

1) Only eat when sitting down. It's true, we tend to eat mindlessly and "graze" more when standing up. Sitting down encourages us to be present and eat with more focus--things that can prevent us from overeating.

2) Use small dinner plates. Using a smaller plate, research has shown, leads to taking smaller portions. If you're trying to avoid overeating, this is a simple trick.

3) Park in the back row at the grocery store. If you routinely hit the grocery store two or three times a week, walking an extra quarter mile to and from the store is an easy way to get more exercise into your busy day. You can adopt this policy everywhere you park, or just at the grocery store for starters.

4) Take the stairs at work. If you are only going up a flight or two, make a promise to yourself that you will take the stairs and give your legs and lungs a little workout mid-day.

5) Switch out coffee for green tea. Green tea has a multitude of health benefits, including warding off cancer, diabetes, high cholesterol and heart disease, stroke and dementia. If you can't do without your cup of joe every day, then start with just Mondays. Remember, the goal is to make small, manageable resolutions that you will keep.

6) Sign up for a 5K. Not a runner? Walk. The very act of signing up for a race will make you more accountable to lace up your sneakers and train for it.

7) Give your spouse one compliment a day. It's so easy to nitpick and criticize our partners, but make a positive change in your relationship by offering one nice, thoughtful exchange a day.

8) Start a journal. You don't have to write pages and pages. You don't even have to write in it every day. But honestly jotting down your thoughts, emotions, goals and hopes can be very healing to our souls.

9) Ditch naysayers. Life is too short to surround yourself with people who are negative, thoughtless, selfish or not healthy for you. Know how to tell? Monitor how you feel when you're around them-do you feel drained, angry, anxious or insecure? Might be time to weed them out of your life.

10) Find more positive friends. In addition to the above, make a commitment that you are going to surround yourself with those who make you feel great, warm, happy and comfortable. You'll notice a big difference in your energy when you're with them.

11) Give up soda. You don't have to completely rid your diet of all sugar and processed foods (although, that's great if you do), but replacing soda with water each day will make a huge difference in your health.

12) Sign up for a class. It doesn't matter what it is-yoga, Zumba, dance, photography, creative writing-anything that you are interested in and want to learn more about is great. In order to keep our minds healthy, it's important to continue learning new things.

13) Turn off the local news. You've probably noticed that the local news is often filled with negative, draining stories about violence, shootings, murders, thefts, etc. Definitely not a good way to start or end the day. Instead, get your news through reputable papers and online sites where you can pick and choose what you want to read.

14) Commit to vegan days. Take Meatless Mondays a step further and ditch the dairy too. Just one day a week of freeing your diet from all animal products can make a tremendous difference to your health, our environment and the life of animals who are often treated cruelly and inhumanely at factory farms.

15) Read more. Let's turn off the TV and our computers an hour earlier each day and read. Commit to reading one book a month and feel the difference it makes in your mental and brain health.
