"Hotel California" anniversary. Steven Tyler is single again. Paul McCartney's "Heart Of The Country. No statue for "The Quiet Beatle". Does music affect how safetly you drive? Chicago has a hangover clinic. Seven healthy ways to pass time at home while you're sick. Five things wives do that turn off their husbands. Eight things you didn't know about the Academy Awards.

THE EAGLES

It was 36 years ago today (January 15th, 1977), that the Eagles' album Hotel California hit Number One. The album, which was released on December 8th, 1976, was the group's third chart-topper in a row, following 1975's One Of These Nights and 1976's compilation Eagles/Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975.

Hotel California included two Number One hits featuring the group's main songwriters and distinctive lead vocalists, with guitarist Glenn Frey taking the lead on "New Kid In Town," and drummer Don Henley singing the album's famous title track. The album's third single, "Life In The Fast Lane," just missed the Top Ten, peaking at Number 11 in the spring of 1977.

Hotel California featured the addition of former James Gang guitarist Joe Walsh, who joined shortly after co-founder Bernie Leadon's departure. It turned out to be the only Eagles album featuring the lineup of Henley, Frey, Walsh, guitarist Don Felder, and co-founder and bassist Randy Meisner.

  • The album's themes reflected the state of America through the decaying Los Angeles rock scene, which by the mid-'70s had changed from an earnest singer-songwriter community into a far more decadent lifestyle fueled by celebrity, money, and drugs.
  • In their original review of the album, Rolling Stone commented on Hotel California's music and its reflection of its creators by saying, "Hotel California showcases both the best and worst tendencies of Los Angeles-situation rock. . . Its lyrics present a convincing and unflattering portrait of the milieu itself."
  • Years later Henley reflected on the album, telling Billboard, "Every band has their peak. That was ours."

STEVEN TYLER

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has split from his 39-year-old fiancee, model Erin Brady, according to The New York Post's Page Six. A source close to the couple told the paper: "It's over for good this time. Steven was just not that nice to her in the end. His family and entourage never really accepted her and she can do better. They're still friendly but they're going their own ways. The engagement is off."

The couple began dating in 2006 and Tyler proposed to Brady during the Christmas holidays in 2011. Tyler was married to first wife Cyrinda Foxe from 1978 to 1987 and Teresa Barrick from 1998 to 2006.

PAUL MCCARTNEY

Paul McCartney has revived his 1971 solo classic "Heart Of The Country" for the new online ad for Britain's Linda McCartney frozen vegetarian food line. The 40-second video features a newly recorded 2012 acoustic and harmonica version of the Ram classic, produced by Mark Ronson over animated art depicting a rural farm scene.

Fans are buzzing over the track, which may be a taster for McCartney's long overdue studio album. Some die-hards are taking exception over McCartney slightly tweaking the song's melody -- not to mention the state of McCartney's vocals, which are far rougher that the high tenor featured in the 1971 version.

Ram drummer and Wings co-founder Denny Seiwell said that although McCartney's songwriting, arranging and instrumental talents have been lauded for years, during the Ram sessions, he was absolutely the greatest vocalist in popular music: "Every vocal that this guy (laughs) sang was so passionate -- any of those vocals could've been used on the final recording. That if you tuned into it at all, you couldn't go wrong. He was so amazing (in) that period of time."

GEORGE HARRISON

George Harrison's widow, Olivia Harrison, has halted outsider plans to erect a statute of "The Quiet Beatle" in his adopted English hometown of Henley-On-Thames. Local fan, James Lambert had sent a petition for the statue to Olivia as a tribute to the late Beatle, who died of cancer in 2001 at age 58. The BBC reported that Olivia's reps informed Lambert that she would prefer "a community project in his name." Harrison purchased Friar Park in Henley-On-Thames on January 14th, 1970

Lambert went on to explain, "The statue could create problems of different types of fans turning up, the unwanted fans. Gauging the pulse in terms of Henley residents I think there was a lot of support. This petition wasn't tapping into the Beatles fanfare worldwide, it was much more to recognize George's contribution to Henley and the affection Henley had for him. It is slightly disappointing but you have to respect Olivia's wishes, as she still has a house in Henley, Friar Park. And I think the danger was it wouldn't just become a Henley acknowledgment of George's work but would encourage more people to visit Henley."

He went on to say: "I think what she's suggesting in terms of a community project would be great and it'll be very exciting to see exactly how this transpires"

Olivia Harrison has taken a hands-on approach to Harrison's legacy, representing him in all Beatles matters, as well as revamping his entire solo catalogue.

Despite all the attention lavished on early collections, All Things Must Pass and Living In The Material World -- along with his late-'70s and '80s work -- two mid-'70s Harrison fan favorites, 1974's Dark Horse and 1975's Extra Texture (Read All About It), have yet to be reissued.

Robert Rodriguez, author of the groundbreaking, Revolver - How The Beatles Reimagined Rock 'N' Roll and his two groundbreaking Beatles FAQ books, explained that Extra Texture at first made for a confusing listen for Beatles fans: ["For a lot of people, when they're first hearing of anything from that album, was the 'You' single -- which is this great, upbeat, joyous sounding record. And then if they thet then bought the album. . . it's this album's worth of nothing else that sounds like that on the album. It is an R&B record. It's very soulful, very blue, and I think it disappointed people who were expecting to find another single on it. And certainly there might have been, at the time, this sort of lingering, from the (1974) Dark Horse tour, this perception of George, y'know, not being at his best. Y'know, maybe they were just so disenfranchised with the Harrison persona at the time that they weren't even gonna cut him any slack."] SOUNDCUE (:37 OC: . . . him any slack)

DOES MUSIC AFFECT HOW SAFELY YOU DRIVE?

We all know that we shouldn't text while driving, and we should always wear our seatbelts, but would listening to certain music while driving affect how we drive? A new study says yes. Study author, Professor Simon Moore with London Metropolitan University, says that results indicate that the optimum music volume for driving is 55 to 65 decibels, and the ideal tempo should mimic the human heartbeat, at around 60 to 80 beats per minute. Moore says to steer clear of driving while listening to music that is noisy, upbeat and increases your heart rate. Confused.com used the study data to determine that "safe driving" playlist would include artists such as Coldplay and Norah Jones, and the "dangerous driving" playlist would include artists such as The Black Eyed Peas and Fall Out Boy. CHICAGO HAS A HANGOVER CLINIC

The Revive Hydration Clinic in Chicago claims it can help to cure hangovers within an hour. According to Revive's website, the clinic offers "intravenous hydration therapy, which is proven highly effective at treating and preventing a multitude of conditions associated with dehydration." One visit costs $99 and that includes any medications, vitamins or antioxidants the physician recommends. The clinic boasts a peaceful and quiet environment that includes private and semi-private areas including a conference room for those who want to work. Amenities like blankets, eye covers, noise-cancelling headphones and cold beverages are available as well. The website states: "The therapies provided at revive are time-tested and proven; delivered by fully accredited, licensed, and experienced registered nurses, and overseen by board-certified physicians." SEVEN HEALTHY WAYS TO PASS TIME WHEN YOU'RE HOME SICK(Huffington Post):

1) Watch a comedy. If you're feeling well enough to watch a movie, make it a comedy. Research shows that laughing may actually boost your immune system.

2) Take a steam. Turn your bathroom into a steam room by running a hot shower. If you're too lightheaded to stand, sit on a chair or the closed toilet and breathe in the steam, which moistens your nasal passages and throw, and can help you relax.

3) Stir up some homemade hot chocolate. Make the winter classic at home, and you can control what goes into the mix. You can keep sugar in check with unsweetened cocoa powder and cut back on fat by using skim milk - plus you can still reap the health benefits of chocolate, like a boost in heart health, a drop in blood pressure and lifted spirits. Plus it will help hydrate you, which is good no matter what you're fighting.

4) Enjoy homemade soup. Sipping soup, especially broth, is bound to feel good, while providing you with the nutrients you need to fight your infection. It's also and easy way to eat healthfully without feeling weighed down. Making your own hearty soup cuts back on salt and also give you the chance to load up with healthy winter veggies.

5) Play a board game. Exercise your brain! Depending on the objective, board games can test your powers of memory, logic, and problem solving.

6) Take a nap. Sleep, sleep, sleep. Try to support your sleep schedule by timing caffeine intake so that it doesn't interfere with your naps.

7) Enjoy your time alone. If you find yourself repeatedly wishing for more hours in the day, take some time to kick back and relax. Being out sick is the perfect excuse to stay away from your e-mail and phone. What's more, the CDC recommends you avoid contact with the people around you when you're contagious.

FIVE THINGS WIVES DO THAT TURN OFF THEIR HUSBANDS (The Stir):

1) Shaving Is the Pits - Guys know women shave or wax their legs. But some are clueless that women actually grow hair in ... gasp ... other places, like under their armpits. So in that vein, watching your wife shave her armpits isn't the sexiest thing in the world. Granted, seeing your wife never shave her armpits is quite a bit worse.

2) The Golden Rule - While we're on the subject, why is it that when guys are in the bathroom shaving, that's always the exact moment their wives come barging in, announce they have to pee, and then do exactly that? Of course if you're into that sort of thing, it's a whole different ballgame.

3) The Never-Ending Story - Yes, women naturally like to talk a lot more than men. And husbands should definitely listen to their wives' stories. But do they have to be soooo long? And full of soooo many tangential details? Trust me, I really don't need to know the exact brand and model number of the brush your best friend's hairdresser recommended for the dog.

4) Quiet on the Set - Speaking of talking ... don't. At least not while we're watching a movie. No, I don't know who that guy is. I'm not sure why he killed his brother. I don't know where the treasure is. I don't know what they said because you were talking, so I missed what they were saying. And now I missed what that woman was saying because I was explaining to you why I missed the previous conversation. For the love of Spielberg, please hold all questions until the final credits roll.

5) Installing a Dutch Oven - You know how women squeak one out under the covers hoping we guys won't notice? Sorry, honey, but the second we pull back those covers, our noses are going to win out over our other little friend. Granted guys can be just as big a buzzkill, except we all know women have a much higher tolerance for pain.

EIGHT THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THE ACADEMY AWARDS(Reader's Digest):

1) Three films have tied for winning 11 awards, the most ever: The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003), Titanic (1997), Ben Hur (1959).

2) The youngest ever Oscar winner was Tatum O'Neal, 10, for Paper Moon (1973); the oldest was Christopher Plummer, 82, for his role in Beginners (2011). In 2013, two actresses made history as the youngest and oldest nominees ever named in the category: Quvenzhané Wallis, 9, for Beasts of the Southern Wild, and Emmanuelle Riva, 85, for Amour.

3) Singer Michael Jackson paid $1.54 million in 1999 to Sotheby's for David Selznick's Best Picture Oscar for the 1939 classic Gone With the Wind.

4) Walt Disney holds the records for both the most Academy Award nominations (59) and Oscars won (26).

5) Peter O'Toole holds the record for most Best Actor nominations without ever winning. He's been nominated 8 times.

6) At 234 minutes, Gone With The Wind is the longest film ever to win Best Picture.

7) The largest U.S. TV audience was in 1998, when 52.2 million people watched Titanic win best picture.

8) 300 limousines are reserved for each year's show.
