GEORGE HARRISON

It was 25 years ago this week -- January 16th to January 23rd, 1988 -- that George Harrison scored a surprise Number One hit with "Got My Mind Set On You," which holds the distinction -- to date -- of being the final solo Beatle Number One hit. The 1962 R&B rarity was written by Rudy Clark and originally recorded by singer James Ray. Harrison remembered the tune during sessions for his eventual comeback album, 1987's Cloud Nine, which was his first new set in five years. The success of the song helped propel Cloud Nine to become Harrison's first Top Ten album in a dozen years.

Harrison's "Got My Mind Set On You" was Harrison's first Top Ten single since his 1981 Top Two tribute to his late Beatles bandmate, John Lennon, "All Those Years Ago." Harrison had last visited the top of the charts with 1973's "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)" and before that, in 1970 with his debut solo single "My Sweet Lord."

Shortly before his 2001 death, George Harrison shed light on choosing ELO leader Jeff Lynne to be his collaborator for his 1987 comeback album, Cloud Nine: "So I thought, well, I don't want someone who's going to boss me about and turn me into something I'm not. I want someone who has a bit of (laughs) respect for me (laughs) and for my past. I want to respect him, too. So I gave it quite a lot of thought and I -- the only person I could think of was, who I would really like to make a record with, was Jeff Lynne. I suddenly thought, I'd been playing his records, and I thought, 'Jeff, that's it!' So, Jeff Lynne, he's it, if I can get to meet him and con him into (laughs) coming in to work with me."

"Got My Mind Set On You," which knocked Whitney Houston's "So Emotional" out of the Number One spot, topped the charts for only one week before Michael Jackson's "The Way You Make Me Feel" took over top honors.

Harrison went on to perform "Got My Mind Set On You" live during his 1991 tour of Japan with Eric Clapton, and played the song on April 6th, 1992 during his final live concert at London's Royal Albert Hall.

FLEETWOOD MAC

Stevie Nicks says that she and former lover Lindsey Buckingham are in the best place they've been in decades. The former couple, who split during the making of Fleetwood Mac's 1977 blockbuster Rumours album, have often been at odds all while recording and touring the world together. A recent four day overdub session at Buckingham's Bel Air home studio did even more to break the ice, with Nicks revealing to The Guardian, "We spent 80 percent of our time talking just like this, telling my assistant Karen all the crazy stories of everything that's happened to us from 1966 until now. We laughed and we laughed -- and we probably cried a couple of times. It was very cathartic. And I think that we came a long way during those four days."

Nicks explained that in some ways, their long dormant love affair is able to come to life within the confines of the concert stage: "People love to see people in love. Not that we're in love, but we have been in love and we have that on stage. And if we're getting along and we're happy with each other, that part comes out."

Back in 2009, Nicks came clean as to when she really, truly, finally knew it was over between her and Buckingham, telling MTV: "The day his first child was born. I knew that was it. . . that was the definitive thing."

Lindsey Buckingham told us the move into becoming a father in the late-'90s immediately took precedence over his music, or whether it was a gradual process that he had to adjust to: ["I found myself in the situation before I was fully acclimated to it, I think, y'know? It just . . . It didn't sink in right away because old patterns do die hard. I can't say that I remember a particular moment, but I do know that one of the great joys and comforts of being a father in particular -- and a spouse as well -- is that you sort of have this biological imperative that you know that you would put them first in any situation."] SOUNDCUE (:29 OC: . . . in any situation)

Stevie Nicks will team up with country stars Lady Antebellum for an upcoming episode of CMT Crossroads scheduled to air later this year.

Fleetwood Mac kicks off their 2013 rehearsals next month in Los Angeles. The band will launch its 34-date North American tour on April 4th at Columbus, Ohio's Nationwide Arena.

HEART

Heart has just released a digital download of its performance of "Stairway To Heaven" from their tribute to Led Zeppelin last month at the Kennedy Center Honors in Washington, D.C. The track, which is available via iTunes, also features Jason Bonham on drums. Sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson made their bones covering Zeppelin tunes on their way up in the clubs of the Pacific Northwest and continue to revere the band.

Lead singer Ann Wilson said that it's a tricky proposal any time you decide to tackle a tune from Zeppelin's mighty catalogue: "The thing about Led Zeppelin is that their stuff has to be handled just right or you should leave it alone. Y'know, you shouldn't try to re. . . reinterpret it, or put your own (laughs) stamp on it. It's kinda holy stuff."

Wilson, who along with the band, will enter the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this spring, said that Heart never wanted to be specifically singled out for being women playing hard rock: "The thing that Nancy and I always fought the hardest against is the, y'know, gender designation of all these lists. Why girls have to be over here and guys have to be over there; why can't we all just do it together on the same footing?"

Heart's latest album, Fanatic, was released on October 2nd and peaked at Number 24 on the Billboard 200 album chart.

ENERGY DRINK-RELATED ER VISITS DOUBLE OVER FOUR YEARS

A government survey out Wednesday (January 16th) found that the number of emergency room visits by people who'd consumed energy drinks doubled across the country from 2007 to 2011, over the same time period as the drinks surged in popularity. Most of the ER visits -- which jumped from about 10,000 to more than 20,000 -- involved teens or young adults, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration survey. More than half of the patients had consumed only the energy drinks, while some 42 percent in 2011 had drunk the energy drinks with alcohol or in combination with drugs, such as the stimulants Adderall or Ritalin. The report says energy drinks can cause fast heartbeat, nervousness, seizures, insomnia and headache. The survey results come as concerns over energy drinks has increased after reports last fall of 18 deaths possibly tied to them. The beverage industry insists energy drinks are safe and say there's no proof linking them to health problems.

GUY OUTSOURCED HIS JOB TO CHINA SO HE COULD SURF THE WEB ALL DAY

A 40-something-year-old employee in the U.S. with a six-figure salary decided to outsource his job to China so he could spend more time updating his Facebook page and watching cat videos. According to reports, the employee -- nicknamed Bob to keep his identity hidden -- telecommuted for a "U.S. critical infrastructure company." The company had just started to monitor employees and immediately noticed an active connection coming from China. It turned out that Bob had shipped his RSA token to China so the contractor he hired could log in and do his work every day. Bob had also arranged to pay the Chinese worker one-fifth of his salary to do the job. An investigation looking into Bob's browsing history revealed that he spent his day watching YouTube and surfing Reddit, eBay, Facebook and LinkedIn. At the end of each day he would send an e-mail to management with an update on "his" work. At the end of hte investigation "Bob" was terminated. (Daily Dot)

MAN CONVICTED OF SHOPLIFTING STEALS UNDERWEAR ON HIS WAY TO JAIL

A man in Eastville, Virginia who was sentenced to serve jail time on weekends for shoplifting was caught stealing two pairs of underwear because he was told to bring his own underwear to jail. An Exmore Dollar General clerk saw 33-year-old Alvin Rogers put two underwear packages into his jacket and walk out of the store. When the clerk confronted him, Rodgers said he took the underwear because he was about to start serving weekend jail time and was told he needed to bring his own clean underwear to jail. Rogers was given even more jail time as a result. (Delmarvanow.com)

TEN QUESTIONABLY SANE WAYS TO TREAT YOUR DOG LIKE A HUMAN (The Frisky):

    1) Dog Manicures. Japanese nail artist Sase Eiko is often booked months in advance for her dog nail art, which she creates with a tiny brush, jewels, and a highly pigmented polish made especially for dog nails. The service costs between $35 and $58 for all four paws.

    2) Dog Perfume. Tired of your dog smelling like kibble, flea shampoo, and whatever they just dug up in the yard? Give 'em a spritz of Urban Pup, a sophisticated (and natural!) perfume for dogs with notes of cedarwood and rosemary.

    3) Designer Dog Clothes. Sure, your dog was born with an all-natural fur coat, and sure, you could always make do with a $15 sweater if you wanted them to dress up for the family Christmas card, but what about the high-end fashions your dog really wants? For example, a trendy $160 faux leather dog jacket.

    4) Dog Massages. Massage can actually be a great calming and therapeutic experience for a dog, but to give them the best (and most human-ish) experience, check into one of these luxury hotels that offers dog pampering services like in-room massage, freshly cooked dog meals, and matching dog/owner pedicures.

    5) Dog Online Dating. Online dating has become something of a rite of passage for most humans; don't let your dog miss out! Sites like MatchPuppy can help your pooch find their perfect match.

    6) Dog Hair Gel. The doggie dating scene is fiercely competitive, so your pup's hair game has gotta be tight. Try somedoggie hair gel to keep his Adam Levine-inspired faux hawk firmly held in place.

    7) Dog Weddings. There comes a point in every dog's life where they realize it's time to stop humping around and settle down with their one true love. When this time comes for your dog, throw them a dog wedding! Doggie nuptial planners can help you plan a ceremony that costs anywhere from $400 to $10,000.

    8) Dog Diamond Earrings. Does your pup need a little bling for her (or his) wedding day? Try these faux diamond magnetic dog earrings.

    9) Dog Sex Dolls. And hey, just in case the whole online dating thing doesn't work out, save the money you would have spent on a wedding and buy your dog some comfort in the form of "Scruffy," the sex doll just for dogs.

    10) Serve Them Doggy Beer. Dawg Grog is a non-alcoholic "beer" especially for dogs, made from malted barley water, liquid glucosamine, and organic vegetable broth.

SEVEN HIGHLY ANNOYING TEXTING HABITS(The Stir):

    1) Using "Y" or "N" for "yes" or "no". I admit, I've done this, but it's freaking ridiculous. I mean, how hard is it to type "es" or "o"? I know we're all busy, but come on.

    2) The ridiculously long text. Like I said, I'm all about texting, but if what you're writing goes into three long separate texts, just call. It'll probably be quicker.

    3) The text that says, "Just left you a message." You're probably not answering your phone for a reason -- be it you're busy, or you just don't want to. You'll get around to calling back when you get around to calling back. And it's kind of a trick, because if you text back, the person knows you're there and dodged their call.

    4) The million texts in a row before you get a chance to respond. Ever pick up your phone and realize you have, like, 10 texts -- from the same person? That's annoying!

    5) The Emoji-obsessed texter. Emojis are cute emoticons, and sometimes, they can get a point across better than actual words can (which is really sad). But when you start sending messages that contain a pill, a girl dancing, a bunny, and a bowl of ramen-looking soup, you have a problem.

    6) Using abbreviations to the point of making your text unreadable. There are the classics: "U" instead of "you"; "idk" instead of "I don't know"; "OMG" for -- what does that even stand for anymore? But then there are the texts that are literally nothing but abbrevs. Stp tht. See? You probably didn't even know what I said there! I said: Stop that!

    7) Having texting be your only form of communication. Texting is convenient, but come on guys, let's not all turn into a bunch of voiceless drones with robo-fast thumbs.
