Jonathan Cain talks Journey. Don Felder/Peter Frampton collaboration?  Sir Ozzy?  Sex may make you smarter. New cell phone will let you scroll with your eyes. Steak is good for you?

JOURNEY

Journey's recording days might be a thing of the past. Due to shifting audiences and the general nature of the music business, keyboardist Jonathan Cain thinks that maybe the band is done releasing new music. Journey's last studio album, Eclipse, was released in May 2011. The Wal Mart exclusive debuted on the Billboard 200 album chart at Number 13 -- eight spots lower than the band's previous album, 2008's Revelation -- which also went on to hit Number One on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart.

Jonathan Cain said that the pressing need for new Journey music has seemed to fade: "Y'know, we're not convinced the market will bear another CD from us, y'know? And it's so much work to make one. Y'know, maybe we get a soundtrack shot with a movie. And the last album we made was a departure. It was Neil (Schon's) 'I wanna do one this way once' -- and so we did. Y'know we did a heavy, rock n' roll record. And it kinda wasn't received very well here in the States and they kinda liked it in Europe and that's kinda what I thought was gonna happen and it barely sold 100,000 (copies)."

  • Cain went on to explain that after Eclipse failed to score with both old fans and new converts, the entire band has had to pause and take stock of where they're at creatively: "After all that time and money, y'know, what are we doing here, y'know? So, we have a great catalogue here, right now to play. We got a lot of songs that we're not even playing. So, we're like, 'What's the point of makin' a new CD right now?' Y'know, if anything, we'll make an EP."

DON FELDER/PETER FRAMPTON

Former Eagles lead guitarist Don Felder is eying a collaboration with another '70's rock god -- Peter Frampton. Frampton and Felder have been friendly for years and first met back in the day when they were criss-crossing the country at the height of Frampton and the Eagles' fame. Last year, Felder released his first solo album in 29 years, the critically acclaimed, Road To Forever.

Felder, who performs an Eagles-based solo show, was asked if he would ever consider writing with Frampton, who shares a similar musical sensibility: "I would love to write with him. As a matter of fact, we've talked indirectly through managers and booking agents of not only working together, but touring together. I think it's a very compatible, kind of audience, then we can wind up playing songs together -- it'd be great. So, I love Peter. I think he's brilliant, I think he's really the kind of legendary, historic player. He's got such a pedigree of songs and history and his repertoire that it would be a great fit. I love Peter."

OZZY OSBOURNE

An Australian woman has launched a campaign to have Ozzy Osbourne nominated for knighthood, according to the Birmingham Mail. Although Helen Maidiotis initially wanted to have all four members of Black Sabbath considered, she thought it was best to focus on getting one particular member knighted first. Having gotten 500 signatures so far, Maidiotis recently wrote, "Ozzy has been an inspiration to many great musicians over the last 40 years. He is a credit to his country and I believe that a knighthood for Ozzy is one well deserved and long overdue."

  • Maidiotis has created a Facebook page to support the campaign and posted the petition online for people to sign.
  • Ozzy told us a while back that that his life story is ultimately an inspiring one: ["I come from a very low, working class family in Birmingham, England. I would sit on my doorstep thinking, 'Wouldn't it be great if Paul McCartney was to marry my sister, la la la, and all these daydreams that silly kids have. And what I say to a lot of people, they say what advice can you give me, and I go, 'I had a dream, and most of my dreams came true and more, you know.' You couldn't invent my story."] SOUNDCUE (:21 OC: . . . invent my story.)
  • Ozzy and original Sabbath members Tony Iommi on guitar and Geezer Butler on bass are preparing to release their first album together in 35 years, tentatively titled 13.
  • The three originals are joined on the album by Rage Against The Machine drummer Brad Wilk, who may or may not tour with them as well. Founding drummer Bill Ward is sitting out the reunion over a contractual dispute.
  • 13 is expected out this June, with a North American tour to follow in July and August.

SEX MAY MAKE YOU SMARTER

A new study from Princeton University finds a link between sex and brain power. For the study, researchers had two groups of rats, one group was only allowed to have sex once every two weeks and the other group had sex daily. At the end of the study, scientists found that rats that had more sex experienced more nerve cell growth and had lower levels of stress hormones. In humans, nerve cell growth is associated with well-being and mental alertness. In fact, other studies have linked sex and exercise to growth in the hippocampus, the part of the brain responsible for memory and learning. Additionally, previous studies have have shown sex brings more oxygen and fresh blood to the brain. (Daily Mail)

RUMOR: NEW CELL PHONE WILL LET YOUR SCROLL WITH YOU EYES

The Samsung Galaxy S IV is set to be unveiled on March 14th, and is rumored to offer a feature no other cell phone currently does -- the ability to a user to scroll through its screen using just their eyes. A Samsung employee told the New York Times that the phone will track a user's eyes in order to determine when to scroll. In February, Samsung filed for a trademark for the phrase, "Samsung Eye Scroll," in the U.S., describing the software as, "Computer application software having a feature of sensing eye movements and scrolling through mobile devices..." Other rumors surrounding the phone say it will have a five-inch screen and a 13MP camera. (Daily Mail)

STEAK IS GOOD FOR YOU?

A recent study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that eating red meat or chocolate may not be as unhealthy as once thought. Scientists say foods that contain a certain type of saturated fat called stearic acid might actually benefit the body. One of the study authors, Dr. Michael Roussell of Pennsylvania State University, says that their study found that participants who ate lean beef daily for five weeks actually had a five-percent drop in their total cholesterol and a four-percent drop in "bad" LDL cholesterol. Roussell says that unlike processed meats such as sausages and ham, unprocessed red meat bring a unique, heart-healthy blend of fats to the table. Stearic acid can also be found in pork, skinless chicken, olive oil, cheese and milk. (Daily Mail)
