Yep. Even though it seems like an extraordinary waste of $14,000 someone actually spent that much ($14,145 to be exact) on Kurt Cobain’s hair at an auction. Now I know there are collectors who collect all kinds of things, apparently dead people’s hair is one of them. And I’m not one to tell anyone how to spend their own money. But just for kicks let me show you what else someone could have bought AT THAT SAME AUCTION, for the same money…

A signed Beatles group vintage photo for only $11,688

That same Nirvana fan could have bought a signed photo of Nirvana with Kurt’s signature for only $13,186

A Beatles drummers signed acoustic guitar with Ringo, Pete Best, and Andy White for $2,342

A Paul McCartney signed Hofner Bass for only $6,596

or a red Strat style electric guitar signed by all of Aerosmith for only $8,290.

There were also playable electric signed guitars by Motley Crue, Metallica, and Led Zeppelin for only 7 or 8 grand. They could have bought 2 of the signed guitars by 2 different bands for what they paid for some hair.

Now true that you can still get some of these autographs even today and there is a very limited supply of Kurt’s hair. Plus I don’t think he’ll be growing any more. But still…just gross.
