Listen Live

You know Merry Clayton’s voice even if you don’t recognize her name.

That searing female vocal on The Rolling Stones “Gimme Shelter” is Merry.

Merry is one of the sweet female voices on Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama”.

She also worked with Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Elvis Presley and she sang with Ray Charles as a teen.

That resume’ certainly qualifies Merry to be called a legend.

And honestly, there are very many more very, very well known artists who Merry has contributed vocals to their recordings.

You may have seen Merry in the Oscar Winning movie “20 Feet From Stardom”.

Just months after that film won the Oscar for Best Documentary, Merry was involved in a devastating accident that claimed both her legs.

It was in the hospital that the idea for her album “Beautiful Scars” was born.

The album is a Gospel experience.

I don’t usually interview artists about Gospel albums.

But Merry is Rock royalty as well.

I have told the story on the radio for years about how Merry became part of The Rolling Stones “Gimme Shelter”.

Listen to our conversation below.

Hear a strong woman talk about the strong force that music is in her life.

Plus hear Merry be so gracious to tell the story of recording with The Stones.

Below that check out the title track from the album “Beautiful Scars” and some other video clips.
