March 9th 1987 U2 released their 5th album “The Joshua Tree”.

The album’s theme was America.

The band wanted the songs and the album to have a cinematic quality.

They wanted a sound that would bring to mind a place, and that place was America.

“The Joshua Tree” became one of the world’s best selling albums, selling over 25 million copies.

U2 celebrated the album’s 20th anniversary with a remastered re-release, and the 30th anniversary with a tour and a reissue.
