A SpaceX capsule splashed down recently with some interesting cargo aboard – 12 bottles of wine and 320 grapevines. They had been on the International Space Station for about a year to see how microgravity and radiation affect the aging process. It’s part of a study to figure out how to grow food on space flights or even other planets. Nicholas Gaume, CEO and co-founder of Space Cargo Unlimited talks about the experiment.

Now, expert tasters will sample the 12 bottles of Bordeaux and compare it to aged Bordeaux at the Institute of Vine and Wine Science at the University of Bordeaux. According to Space Cargo Unlimited, “This could yield results that help in understanding taste enhancement and food conservation.”

I would imagine it helps with those long stays on the Space Station too!
