WFRV says the dog was found at a fire hydrant near the corner of East Walnut Street and South Clay Street by a neighbor, who told them the note left with the dog said the family couldn’t take care of her anymore and her name is “Baby Girl”. The dog was also left with a backpack filled with food, treats, and toys.

The neighbor told WFRV that she sat with the dog for about an hour in hope that the owner would return but they did not. She decided to take the dog to the Wisconsin Humane Society’s branch in Green Bay.

“We’re just glad she made her way to us. She’s getting lots of TLC and is doing well. This is a great opportunity to remind everyone that no matter what someone’s situation may be, the Wisconsin Humane Society will never turn away an animal in need. We regularly work to make sure that surrender fees are not a barrier to those needing to rehome their pet, and although we request a surrender appointment be made in advance, we do take in emergency surrenders if needed. It’s important to us to be a supportive, welcoming resource for those in need. We serve not just animals, but the people who love them,” says Wisconsin Humane Society’s Angela Speed.
