MIDDLEBURG, Va. – The FBI is trying to find out who shot a military helicopter this week and why.

An Air Force UH01N Huey helicopter was shot from the ground over Middleburg, Virginia on Monday, The Associated Press reported.

It made an emergency landing at the Manassas Regional Airport.

Federal authorities are investigating “to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the FBI said in a statement to the AP.

Both the FBI and the Air Force are investigating, CNN reported.

A bullet hit the helicopter, causing damage, but the chopper was able to land safely, Air Force officials told the AP.

A crew member was injured but was treated and released; however, no details were given how the person was hurt.

The helicopter was part of the 1st Helicopter Squadron based at Joint Base Andrews and was on a routine training mission, the AP reported.

If anyone has information on the incident, they’re being asked to call the FBI at 202-278-2000, CNN reported.
