EAST CHICAGO, Ind. – An Indiana girl is dead after a stray bullet struck her in the living room of her East Chicago home, authorities said.

According to the Times of Northwest Indiana and WLS-TV, Timya Andrews, 8, was doing homework Oct. 22 when gunfire erupted outside the house on Migoun Street. A bullet struck the girl’s head, authorities said.

Andrews, who was flown to a Chicago hospital for treatment, died at 2 p.m. Wednesday, the news outlets reported.

“May she rest in peace in God’s loving arms,” the East Chicago Police Department wrote in a Facebook post Wednesday.

East Chicago police and the Bureau of Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms are investigating the shooting and have not announced any arrests, according to the Times.

Authorities are offering a $10,000 reward – $5,000 each from Mayor Anthony Copeland and the ATF – “for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual(s) involved in this heinous and senseless crime,” the Police Department wrote.
