Houston police Sgt. Cowan saw lewd graffiti at the Dylan Duncan Skate Park Nov. 16 and felt compelled to cover up the explicit portions since the public space is popular with families.

Cowan went to a nearby hardware store to buy paint with his own money. When Cowan explained what he needed the paint for, the store owner donated two cans for the efforts. When Cowan returned to the park, another officer was talking to kids and teens who were gathered there. They volunteered to help paint and their teamwork cut the work time in half.

“After painting, one skater asked if he could jump over an officer with his skateboard and Sgt. Cowan volunteered without a second thought,” Houston police said on social media. “The jump was successful and the officers and teens left the park not only doing their good deed for the day, but with new friends.”

Cowan is also rumored to be returning to the park in the coming weeks for skateboard lessons.
