Griegos, east of Madrid, has only 132 residents, but the town’s leaders are advertising free rent and jobs to lure people to the Spanish countryside, Ladbible reported.

An advertisement says, “We offer you work in the kitchen and restaurant for you and your partner at the Paladar de Aragón, located in La Muela de San Juan. Or you can manage the Griegos hotel-restaurant, located in the square,” the Mirror reported.

If restaurant jobs aren’t your thing, the town offers the opportunity for telecommuting.

There are a few rules.

The applicants must be a family with children so the number of kids enrolled at the town’s school can be boosted from the current nine.

The town’s deputy mayor wants enough children to attend so the school doesn’t close.

So far they’ve received applications from Spain, Latin America, Croatia and Romania, according to Olive Press.

The families selected will get three months without rent then will have to pay about $265 a month in rent not including the nearly $60 credit for each child, the Mirror reported.

There were three homes available, Ladbible reported.

Officials said on Facebook that they had recently selected two families for the opportunity to move to Griegos out of thousands of applicants.

This isn’t the first time a town has put up free or vastly reduced housing to help bring new people into a community.

Castiglione di Sicilia offered homes for a euro or about $1.21 in 2020, CNN reported at the time.
