SAN ANTONIO – Unbeaten South Carolina moved closer to its second consecutive national women’s basketball title on Monday, while Virginia Tech also punched a ticket to the Final Four. They will join Iowa and LSU in Dallas beginning Friday to determine the nation’s top team.

Top-ranked South Carolina (36-0) won its 42nd consecutive game and qualified for its third consecutive Final Four, rolling past second-seeded Maryland 86-75 in the Elite Eight. In the later game, Virginia Tech (31-4) earned an 84-74 victory against Ohio State (28-8).

The Gamecocks, led by Aliyah Boston’s 22 points and 10 rebounds, are two games from repeating as national champions. Two more wins will also secure the 10th undefeated season in women’s college basketball history, ESPN reported.

Maryland ended its season 28-7.

South Carolina will face Iowa (30-6) in Friday’s late semifinal in Dallas.

Virginia Tech will meet third-seeded LSU in the early semifinal.

The Hokies won their 15th straight game and earned their first trip to the Final Four.

Virginia Tech advanced thanks to the play of center Elizabeth Kitley, who scored 25 points and added 12 rebounds and three blocked shots. Four players scored in double figures for Virginia Tech, with guard Georgia Amoore scoring 24 points.

Kitley scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter, helping Virginia Tech take a 70-60 lead.

Guards Taylor Mikesell and Jacy Sheldon led Ohio State with 25 and 19 points, respectively.
